English learning is rather about logical training than skills' training.English grammar teaching,as an indispensable element of English teaching,plays an important part.So it is vital for us to do more explorations and researches on teaching modes to make grammar teaching easier and more reasonable.Although the traditional grammar teaching mode-"Present-Practise-Produce" still dominates the English grammar classes,it impedes the development of cognitive abilities without fulfilling the communicative function,which can not be ignored.Consciousness-Raising,different from the "PPP" mode,improves students' cognitive abilities in grammar classes by presenting abundant language materials and then to facilitate students' voluntary attentions.The significant step of "C-R" is to establish the interlinkage of previous and present knowledge.The vocational college students have much maturer cognitive abilities and logical patterns than secondary vocational college students,but they don't lay a solid language foundation as other college students do.Combining the features of vocational students with "PPP" and "C-R"modes,an innovative grammar teaching mode-"NPT"(Noticing-Presentation-Tasks)mode comes into being,which selects the key steps from "PPP" and "C-R" to accord with the characteristics of vocational college students,making the grammar teaching more effective and productive.However,English grammar is too complex with various and abundant language points.Combining the characteristics of "NPT" mode and the importance of learning relative clauses,this paper selects relative clauses as a case study.It turns out that "NPT" teaching mode is much better than "PPP" mode in grammar classes through the experiment based on the followings:First of all,students can not only restore the grammar points with long-term memory but enhance their problem-solving abilities and logical thinking in their formative ages.Besides,"NPT"mode is bound to reduce classroom anxiety,to stimulate the learning interests and to regain the learning confidence.In addition,the tasks can guarantee the same amount of inputs and outputs,and then discover the students,"zone of proximal development".
