Three series of disperse dyes based on heterocyclic diazo components have been designed. The structures of the synthesized compounds were identified by MS, IR and NMR. The visible absorption spectra of all dyes were examined, the dyeing properties of the dyes on polyester fibre or microfibre were investigated. 6 disperse dyes were selected to prepare ink jet printing dye dispersion through a grinding and homogenization process.1. Eight N-alkylpyridone coupling components were synthesized, twelve disperse dyes were prepared using 3-amino-5-nitrobenzisothiazole, 2-amino-6-nitrobenzo-thiazole and 4-chloro-2-nitroaniline as diazo component respectively. Their visible absorption spectra have been studied as function of pH values and the effects of solvents, the relationship between the hydrazone-azo anion equilibrium and the pH values or different solvents is discussed. Some of the dyes' dyeing properties on polyester microfibre were investigated.2. 2-amino-3-cyano-4-chloro-5-formylthiophene was optimally synthesized in yield of 80%. N-[3-(bisethylamino)phenyl]-2-methoxyacetamide were prepared in yield of 78%. Five disperse dyes based on 2-amino-3-cyano-4-chloro-5-formylthiophene were prepared, they are found to have good fastness on polyester fibre.3. Two arylamine coupling components bearing different alkoxyalkyl groups were prepared. Twelve disperse dye were synthesized using 3-amino-5-nitrobenz-isothiazole, 2-amino-3-cyano-4-chloro-5-formylthiophene and 6-bromo-2,4-dinitroaniline as diazo component respectively, they are found to have good fastness on polyester microfibre.4. The conditions of grinding process were optimized, proper grinding agents were selected. Six different color dye dispersion were prepared through a grinding and homogenization process. They can be used in ink jet printing ink for thermal transfer printing.
