Today's market is characterized by intense competition in the global manufacturing environment. In order to survive, manufacturers must be able to deliver their products with speed, diversity, high quality, and at low cost. Outstanding product design meeting the above-mentioned requirements will ultimately determine the final winner in this competition. By capturing, organizing, retrieving and reusing the existing design resources, design reuse can effectively reduce cost and save time, and the significance of design reuse is becoming widely accepted by researchers.Sponsored by Major Program of National Natural Science Foundation of China (No.50335040) and Key Science & Technology Project of Beijing Jiaotong University (No.2006XZ011), this dissertation explored the novel area of design reuse, design process reuse, from those aspects, the definition, mathematical model, encapsulation template, remote publication mechanism, retrieving mode, scale model of design process reuse, and reuse operation of the design process unit(DPU), the design process reuse pattern, and the application mode of design process reuse in distributed remote collaborative environment, etc.First of all, via lucubrate design process, the evaluation criteria of process decomposition is established, and then the definition and mathematical model of DPU is introduced. Meanwhile, DPU's character, structure and infrastructures technologies are studied. Also the general process of building DPU is formalized as:modeling the design process, estimating the decomposability of design process, and executing the decomposition of design process.Then, to achieve the distributed remote reuse of design process, this paper does further research on the distributed collaborative design environment and the corresponding collaborative design technology, presents the DPU Encapsulation Template Model (DETM), the SOOA-based remote published mechanism, and the federated network architecture of reusable DPU, discusses the way that using them to encapsulate DPUs as the distributed SORCER services which can be dynamically invoked and integrated as an temporary exertion federation, and introduces the concept of interactive agent as the information exchange between reusable DPU of distributed collaborative design environment while the function and features of interactive agent is studied. Subsequently, based on the distributed remote collaborative reuse of design process, this paper establishes the retrieval mode of distributed reusable DPU and the scale model of design process reuse, analyses the series-parallel operation of reusable DPU, and proposes the three-stage pattern of design process reuse:process retrieval for reuse, process design by reuse and interaction management. Also, the general application and the evolutionary application of the design process reuse are discussed together with the prediction of product creative design.Finally, based on the application of design process reuse in the distributed remote CAE collaborative design, this paper proposes the process model of remote CAE analysis, develops the distributed remote CAE collaborative design (DRCD) platform, designs its subsystems, and introduces its infrastructure technologies. The case of remote CAE fatigue analysis of railway bogie demonstrates that DRCD platform can shorten the cycle of product design with good capability to model, decompose, encapsulate, publish, dynamically find and remotely reuse the design process. That's to say, design process reuse is the significative exploration of design reuse.
