Through analyzing the evolution mechanisms of spatial morphology of city village, with regard to the reality that city village in great cities of central and western China are experiencing reform and marketization on a large scale, this study identified existing and potential spatial problems during the transformation process, and explored harmonious transformation of city village in great cities of central and western China during the period of social transition, spatial policies for sustainable development, and the positioning of urban planning, its role as well as the institutional environment impacting its implementation performance. To ensure that the theory accurately reflects actual conditions in China, this dissertation adopted multidisciplinary research methodology from the sciences of human settlement, a comprehensive approach integrating urban sociology, development economics, and land economics with the theory of human settlement. Specifically, this paper employed social survey methods and analyzed the survey data by combined normative analysis with empirical analysis in which synthetic utilizing comparative study and case study. This study conducted analysis via placing city village issues in the context of the dynamic evolution of the division, opposition, and integration of China's urban and rural space. Analysis of the inner social mechanism engendered in the special spatial morphology in city village, peasants'movement path during its forming process, and the characteristics of city village's social structure, thereby disclosing evolution rules of spatial morphology in city village and their transformation difficulties. The article indicated that the emergence of city village is caused by the rapid urbanization, city's low-cost expansion, expropriation of peasants land at low price with extensive development approach, massive shift of floating population and abnormal inflation in real estate market. But they are just superficial objective factors, the underlying reason is peasants'collective everyday resistance to fight for spatial rights and interests against the long-term suppression of farm's rights and interests under China's dual system. Once the opposition obtains success, it will form the inertia in peasants'resistance experience, and the vicious circular game between failure of government regulation and peasants unauthorized building profitable expansion will be happened constantly, the result is not only the government's enormous administration consumption, but also the greatly growing costs of urban redevelopment. In fact, the alienation of spatial morphology in city village is the graphical representation of urban space which is caused by peasants'confrontation because of lack of rights and interests in the process of modernization.Recent years, the problems of city village in great cities of central and western China are becoming increasingly conspicuous, in view of bitter lessons of city village in the developed areas of our country, when those great cities are facing new developing opportunities ,they start up transformation of city village one after another to solve the problems of city village as soon as possible. However, in reality the implementation of transformation of city village is less than satisfactory.Through analysis on the theory of social space integration, the problems of spatial morphology in city village can't be separated from the problems of complex social morphology of city village, and they can't be solved by material and technical apparatus which are simple and mechanical, but rather an alienated system engineering of transformation from a traditional agricultural society to a modern urban community and the transformation of a small peasant social morphology base on actual cases has its own stubborn path dependence, which can't be changed by simple transformation of physical spatial morphology.Based on expatiating on the phenomenon, reason and development state of the antagonism between city village and urban spatial morphology, the author further explores the social versatility of city village as human settlement complex system, namely it is the social suitability and spatial supplement in the social transition period. And all these mainly express on city village absorbing a large number of urbanization migrants and vulnerable groups excluded from the existing urban housing security mechanism for its advantages of low rent, easy entry and spatial volatility, and becoming the community for the agglomeration of urban informal economy and informal employment as well as the bulk supply of urban low-rent housing. Therefore, to a large extent, city village in the urban transition period (especially in the metropolitan transition period) plays a special socio-spatial security role for its colonial-specific space adaptability, and can not be substituted in a short time. However, the social security of city village is not really such a conscious social rational action, and the unavoidable production of a large amount of negative externality made it cannot excluded from social regulation, and needed the engagement of social public rationality to radically change the sustainable development of vulnerable groups and indigenous people of city village. But what should be payed special attention is that because the city village in great cities of central and western China are of great quantity and far-ranging, once the large-scale, purely market-oriented reconstruction way is taken, it not only blindly pursue the economic efficiency, but also remove the social benign function of the city village, and form large-scale exclusion to the week groups in the city. The practice in the west developed countries has proved that when the deprivation of this spatial rights accumulated to a certain extent, it would endanger the stability of society. In view of the above analysis, this dissertation will be bring forward that the control strategy for urban planning about the reconstruction of the city village should take the spatial fusion between city and countryside and the society harmony of the city as development purpose; take the share of the spatial rights, equity and efficiency together as direction mentality, at the same time, in the period when the social guarantee systems such as the country housing haven't been consummated, more attention should be paid to the social justice; the planning authorized strategy of total control, different reconstruction, microcosmic innovation and gradual amalgamation should be (taken, in order to achieve the aim that the rights of the subject of the property rights have been guaranteed, increment income of the city land is shared, historical culture of the city continue, the responsibility for protecting the environment of the city is shared , and the general development of the city is shared.Because the roots of the city village is the defects of a series of dual systems, thus, the effect of the city planning as a means of the spatial resource distribution in the transformation of city village and avoiding new city village's appearance is still very limited, on the contrary, the innovation and social performance of the city planning in the city village reconstruction depend on the course of unification of the dual system, as well as the transformation and improvement of its related series of policy.
