MES (Manufacturing Execution System) is information systems that reside on the plant floor between the planning systems in offices and direct industrial controls in the production manufacturing management process, which provides real-time information about the product planning, product tracing and resource allocation for the plant floor managers. MES is a bridge that spans and fills up the gap between the planning systems and direct industrial controls, which has been the mainstream technology on the product management and the plant floor control.The research and application of MES are still in the beginning in China, which have made rapid and great progress abroad. Under the background of application in Dalian Locomotive & Lorry Factory and based on research Projects supported by the National High-Technology Development Program (863), the paper has made scientific research from six aspects of MES as follows.1) The main Actors and Use-cases are analyzed in the plant floor manufacturing environment and the system architecture of MES is set up. Then the key technologies are analyzed.2) Oriented to product basic data management in MES, a new concept named xBOM is brought forward and extended to the product life cycle. This paper studies on the data structures of many BOM views and the mathematic description method of EBOM/MBOM which is a tool to set up the mapping relation between BOM views. How to modeling the BOM views transform using WorkFlow technology is also studied.3) In order to manage and trace materials in MES, the concept, theorems and properties about a special set named S(I) are put forward. Based on the properties and theorems of S(I), a new method is presented to describe the material process state. It is a concise way Using the Material process state vector and Material process state value to deal with the materials which provides a powerful mathematic tool for material management in MES.4) Based on modeling the problem of scheduling system, this paper presents an object-oriented shop scheduling model. An arithmetic configuration method among the classical scheduling arithmetic is put forward, which can realize intelligent scheduling.5) Collaboration product manufacturing management is a difficult problem under Agile Manufacturing pattern. Based on theory of AHP, the partner evaluation and selection mathematic method for single collaboration task in MES are put forward. Then using the graph theory the partner evaluation and selection mathematic method for assigned parts in MES are also studied and its arithmetic feasibility is proved.6) Based on the software architecture of Windows DNA, the new software architecture for MES and the method of software components programming are brought forward. Then based on the COM technology, a MES software design and programming method is presented. A total solution for the enterprise and shop management situation in application is presented which realizes the MES software prototype.
