With the increasingly fierce market competition, the majority of manufacturing companies are generally faced with increasing randomness of orders, frequently changed orders, increasing production varieties, growing of personalized user demand and smaller batch of the production and so on. All these problems in enterprises take challenge of the flexibility of manufacturing link and the efficiency of production. Extending informationization from design level and manage level of enterprises to workshop level and making use of MES to improve the level of production management and the capacity of production and manufacture is one of the most important developmental trends of present manufacturing informationization. And the research on MES is also a hotpot of advanced manufacturing field. Recently, many experts and enterprises are engaged in relevant research and application, which gain many valuable results.This paper was sponsored by the Chongqing Municipal Science and Technology research project " the development and application Model of workshop manufacturing process information supporting platform" (Item Number: CSTC2007AA2013), researching on the NC workshop of Chongqing CAFF company which produce automobile brake products, it explores and researches on the development and application of the MES in Chongqing CAFF company's NC workshop.First, the paper analyses the features of NC workshop manufacturing process and workshop production management, and the problems faced by the workshop and the information technology needs in Chongqing CAFF company. It sets up Chongqing CAFF Company's NC workshop's manufacturing execution system (CAFF-MES) architecture, including the structure, function system and network support system. It researches the MES operation mode of Chongqing CAFF Company's NC workshop.Based on the architecture and operation mode above, the main function subsystem of CAFF-MES is systemicly designed, including workshop drawings rejection, Information terminal processing, workshop operations management, workshop quality management, production progress monitoring, basic data management and systems integration, and other subsystems of the system design. Finally, the above researches CAFF-MES are implemented and applied in Chongqing CAFF company's NC workshop and achieved good application effect.
