Mass customization(MC) is an important production and marketing mode of manufacturing enterprises in the 21st century. Design for mass customization(DFMC) is one of the most important supporting technologies in MC implementation. Focused in the field of DFMC, the theory and key technologies of networked customer integrated design for mass customization are studied in the paper.Firstly, the importance of manufacturing industry in national economy and society development is elaborated. The change of manufacturing industry's external environment since 1970s and its influence are analyzed. The development trend of modern manufacturing industry is summed up. The aim and significance of this paper's research and its supporting research subjects are clarified. The field of MC with which this paper's research correlates most strongly is summarized. The basic thought, technology basis and implementation environment of DFMC are discussed. After analyzing running mode of DFMC, it's pointed out that one important characteristic of current DFMC mode is that product design and manufacturing are usually considered only after the customer order has been confirmed. Therefore, the designs for all phases of product lifecycle will be constrained heavily by initial customer requirements, which makes optimization of manufacturing attributes hard to achieve. To solve this problem, the thought of customer requirements collaborative optimization between customers and enterprises is brought forward. It is considered that customer requirements parameters have strong correlation to enterprises' parameters of product design, product manufacturing, management, operation and so on. In many circumstance, customer requirements are not totally fixed. They can be regarded as a vector space which have considerable scope of variation. Within the vector space, enterprise is provided with capacious room to pilot customer requirements in many aspects. Therefore, through the integration of customers and enterprises and coordinating customer requirements parameters with enterprises' various kinds of parameters, it will be possible to achieve overall optimization and consequently improve customer's satisfaction and enterprises' performance.Then, an optimization model of the thought of customer requirements collaborative optimization between customers and enterprises is established. The running mode, organization pattern and internal integration mode of networked customer integrated design for MC are set up. The realization of networked customer integrated design for MC are discussed in detail, which includes the realization process of normal customization design, the customization design process by outsourcing to customers and the realization process of special customization design.Multiple key technologies of networked customer integrated design for MC have been studied in this paper. The acquisition and conversion of customer requirements are discussed. A kind of product similarity evaluation method based on customization product family is elaborated in detail. That is, the similarity indexes of various product functional design schemes comparing with existing products in the corresponding product family are figured out to indicate in what extent these design schemes could optimize enterprise's manufacturing attributes. After analyzing existing customer satisfaction evaluation method, it is pointed out that customer satisfaction involved with customer integrated design should be considered synthetically from three aspects of product performance, product price and time of delivery. The evaluation methods of product cost, product delivery time and customer satisfaction on product performance are discussed detailedly. The requirements of customer integrated design on product description method is elaborated.
