For most Chinese, the desire of a happy life is tightly linked to residence. With the further development of market economy and overall society in recent years, residential reform happens in many cities. Residential development has great impact on different aspects such as life style, living culture and urbanization. The paper focused on the inner driving force to location transformation of urban living space and tries to find out the proper development for the better location of urban living space.Based on the present dynamic location development in urban living space, the paper discusses issues including "Plate Phenomena" presenting position context, the framework divided into market force and administrative force. Perspectives from economics, sociology, behaviorism and ecology are introduced into discussion. Furthermore, recommendations are given for better location strategies.The core issue of the research is about location of urban living space. It follows three parts: The first part is an introduction to answer "What" which defines the scope, concept and general framework to build a theory basis. The second part is to analyze "Why" . Based on characteristics of location transformation of urban living space, the spatial influence and framework of market force and administrative force are analyzed. The case of Shanghai is studied to demonstrate the integrated force from market and administration. The third part is strategy analysis to tell "How". The value of better location of urban living space is presented and development model is recommended. Finally, further development trend for the location of urban living space in cities such as Shanghai is envisaged.
