Study On Layout Optimization Design Of Road Guide Signs In Urban

The main function of the road guide signs in urban is to guide the driver to reach the destination successfully. The layout information overload or lack of main information will affect the visual recognition and understanding of the road guide signs. Due to the national standard of China who didn’t make detailed provisions to each of direction information of the road guide signs, now the layout information of guide signs in urban are not consistent with the selection criteria and the form of the layout. This situation led to the lack of unity between the road guides signs in urban. Therefore, the drivers who are not live in the local city or not familiar the road network, they are difficult to determine the driving direction and even make wrong judgment with the different of layout information of guide signs. Finally, the drivers were driving a lot of distance or the wrong path.Firstly, the paper introduces the way, ability and reaction time of the drivers to handle the traffic information, and the information requirement of the guide signs of the drivers. Meanwhile, the information of road signs is classified, and the selection method of guiding signs is summarized.Secondly, the paper was carried out the comparative analysis to the layout design of the road guide signs in six cities of China and the United States, Britain, Japan three countries. Simultaneously, the paper summed up the draw lessons from of the layout design of the road guide signs from the three countries. The paper were summarized and analyzed the design features of the layout design of the road guide signs to the six cities of China from seven aspects, which are the main guide information, the layout intersection, whether to display the straight line information and so on. Then, the problems existing in the layout design of the road guide signs in our country were put forward, and according to the principle of the layout design of the guide signs, the standard guide signs in China were innovative, and two kinds of the guide signs were designed.Finally, the paper has designed two experiments using the E-prime psychology software. Two experiments were the search task experiment and the path judgment experiment. Using the SPSS statistical software, the reaction time and the reaction results of two new guide signs in the task of the search cognitive and path judgment were difference analysis. Compared with the standard guide signs in China, two new guide signs reached the optimization results, and provided the reliable basis for the future layout design of the road guide signs in urban.
