Landscape Design Traditional Theories To Design Practise

This paper works on the historical and traditional concepts of garden construction through practical design. The author aims to explore the essence of Chinese traditional garden construction based on her own practice of Landscape Architect. By means of the combination of the design theories and the practices of modern Landscape Architect, the author summarizes the garden construction theory that fit for contemporary China, and then proposes appropriate development ways of Chinese landscape architect to solve the problems within the designing work of modern Landscape Architecture. It is said that'There are always Ancient Meaning, and New Poetry Can Be Written'. We could look into the future of Chinese landscape design based on the development of Chinese economizing garden.From the research on the sources of traditional landscape architect, it does get the conclusion that 'the unity of heaven and humanity is not only the general principles of human culture, but also the guiding ideology of Chinese landscape architecture. Under the guiding of such a general principle, the Chinese landscape architecture absorbs the quintessence of classical Chinese literature and drawing, and then formed the particular gardening theories. All those theories have been developed for hundreds of years and then concluded by later generations. The author gets the following six principles by realistic and practical design work:name analysis, site investigation, conception make, overall arrangement, details creation and lingering charm. Then the author analyzed scores of classical cases based on the above principles to find out the problems in real work. This work will improve the design of Chinese landscape architecture on the one hand, on the other hand, the above mentioned principles will also be supported by real practice. Nowadays, so many landscape architects focus their efforts on the research of western landscape architecture. However, the author investigated the different conditions of Chinese and western gardening to applied objective analysis, which illustrate that there bound to get different ways for development of Chinese and western gardening. Here the author hopes such a work could reveal that the Chinese traditional principles still offer significant experiences to the development of modern landscape architecture.As thinking over the work practice, the author advices accessible opinions in the fashion of 'make the past serve the present' to the problems of present landscape architecture designing work. In this regard, it is emphasized to absorb the advantage of the western design experience but not learn from the west blindly. All the landscape architects should learn from the traditional principles and based on practical work to realize their double sense of responsibilities:the responsible for design practice and for the development of particular Chinese gardening system info.
