This thesis aimed to Study the antidiarrheal effects of Chinese herbal medicine for piglets and their antidiarrheal mechanisms. The results could be summarized as follows:1. The antidiarrheal powder and the antidiarrheal oral liquid could control piglet'sdiarrhea effectively. The antidiarrheal powder could reduce the frequency of piglet's diarrhea as 63.1% and the death rate as76.8%; The antidiarrheal oral liquid could reduce the frequency of piglet's diarrhea as51.8% and the death rate as 56.7%.2. The antidiarrheal powder and the antidiarrheal oral liquid were safe to piglets.According as results of the acute safety testing, subacute safety testing and tolerance testing, the antidiarrheal powder and the antidiarrheal oral liquid were very safe to piglets.3. The anlidiarrheal powder and the antidiarrheal oral liquid were stable .According as results of the temperature stability testing, humidity stability testing and light stability testing , the antidiarrheal powder and the antidiarrheal oral liquid were very stable.4. The quality standard of the antidiarrheal powder and the antidiarrheal oral liquid were established. The contents of hydrochlorate berberine and matrine were detected by thin layer chromatography and high performance liquid chromatography methods. These methods were useful to control the quality of the antidiarrheal powder and the antidiarrheal oral liquid.5. The mechanisms of the antidiarrheal oral liquid were studied. The present study indicated that the antidiarrheal oral liquid could promote the transport of water and sodiumion from intestinal cavity to the epithelial cells of intestinal mucosa and inhibit the inflammatory exudation in acute enteritis, and the inhibitory effect of the antidiarrheal oral liquid on intestinal movement was one of these important antidiarrheal mechanisms as well.
