Background and ObjectivesGhrelin is secreted mainly from the stomach. The peptide stimulates growth hormone release. More and more studies have identified that ghrelin have the abilities of stimulating appetite, regulating the energy balance, and probably associatewith pathogenesis of obesity. Ghrelin stimulate gastric acid secretion, gastric movement and digestion; inhibit fat oxidation; excessive ghrelin can slow down metabolic rate; the association with a few of adipokines, regulate energy balance.Recently, more and more studies have identified ghrelin implicated in the development of the type 2 diabetes. The concentration of ghrelin in the healthy offspring of type 2 diabetes mellitus patients decreased. Low ghrelin level is independently associated with type 2 diabetes, insulin level, insulin resistance and hypertension. Ghrelin maybe have some roles in the etiology of type 2 diabetes mellitus and regulation of blood pressure.Korbonits et al detect ten single nucleotide polymorphisms of ghrelin by direct sequencing method. Leu72Met(C408A), Arg51Gln(G346A) and Gln90Leu polymorphisms are more common. The studies about Gln90Leu are less, and found no relationship to obesity and insulin resistance. So our study is about Leu72Met and Arg51Gln polymorphism. Objective: (1) to investigate the distribution of ghrelin(C408A, G346A) polymorphisms in Han nationality in Beijing area; (2) to investigate relationship between ghrelin gene polymorphisms and insulin secretion and insulin resistance; (3) to study relationship between ghrelin gene...
