Study On The Regional Economic Development Of The Prefecture-level City In Shandong Province

Regional economy becomes a problem all over the world, especially for China. China is a country with a vast territory and there are huge differences in nature resources, geography, human resources, cultural environment, technologies and economic bases in different areas, which make the development of regional economy a key issue for China’s economy development. According to the situation of regional economy, urban economy based on area cities becomes the key part of the system of our regional economy, because they are the main components of big regional economy and also represents the regional economy of counties. Shang Dong Province, as the one of the top three provinces in economy development, has unique regional economy worth theoretically investigating and empirically comparing.This thesis firstly summarizes the theories about regional economy, including concepts, characteristics and key modes of growth of regional economy. Following the idea of starting from the aggregate situation then moving to the specific ones, this thesis starts with the existing state of regional economy development in Shan Dong Province and typical regional economy development, then generalizes the characteristics of regional economy in Shan Dong Province and examines the advantages and constraints, finally provides suggestions on how to improve the development of regional economy in Shan Dong Province. There are five parts in this thesis:Introduction is in Part 1. First of all, describes the research background, points out that the discussion on regional economy is still weak and there is no research on the development of regional economy for Shan Dong Province, thus this thesis can shed lights on current research. Moreover, discusses the theory of regions, regional economy development, processes of regional economy development, competitive advantages of regional economy and so on, and reviews current literature on regional economy. Finally, introduce the research idea, contents, methods and innovations.Part 2 examines the theories of regional economy development. Firstly, describe the Marx’s. Engels’s. Lenin’s. Stalin’s and Chinese communist leaders’ idea about regional economy and point out that Marx’s regional economy theory is a developing theory, scientific outlook on development as its new achievements implies the idea of regional economy development. Later, defines the concept of regional economy and describe the differences and links among urban economy, regional economy, district economy, city economy and county economy. Then, discusses the characteristics and the necessity of developing regional economy. Finally, address four modes of regional economy development:polar nucleus mode, gradient mode, axis point mode and network mode.Part 3 analyzes the general situation of the development of regional economy in Shan Dong Province. In the first place, reviews the economy development in Shan Dong Province. Separates development into four processes and analyze the polices of the provinces. Moreover, describe the importance of regional economy. After quantitative and qualitative analysis, the thesis points out that Shan Dong Province regional economy has the following base characteristics:regional economy is developing very fast, the quantity of regional economy is different in different process of development, industry structure is a "two-three-one" mode, but very different inside the structure, the level of urbanization restrict the development of regional economy. Finally, based on the geography, economy development, industry structure, characteristics of regional economy and so on, separate Shan Dong Province regional economy into five categories:open coastal, industrial, resource, trading specialized and less-developing regional economy.Par 4 examines five regional economy cases of main cities in Shan Dong Province:Weihai for open coastal regional economy, Huaifang for industrial regional economy, Dongyijing for resource regional economy, Linzhe for trading specialized regional economy and Heze for less-developing regional economy. Mixed with the real situation, investigates the history of regional economy, characteristics of regional economy development, main problems and directions of regional economy development.Part 5 summarizes the characteristics and ways of regional economy development in Shan Dong Province. Firstly, based on the case analysis in Part 4, concludes that the regional economy development in Shan Dong Province has following distinguishing features:government plays a leading role in regional economy development, there are competitions in counties but a unite in city, the industry strategy is to exploit the advantages to make industry-led or character economy, the development strategy is to develop different urban groups. Furthermore, analyze the advantages and limitations and provides following suggestions for improving the developments of regional economy in Shan Dong Province:raising the power of government to plan the regional economy development, merging the regional economy development into two national strategies, exploiting the advantage of regions to accept the transfer of Japanese and Korean industries, focusing on upgrading the regional economy and fully constructing the increasing system of town levels...
