Research On Marine Fisheries’ Contribution To Marine Economy In China

As the land resources are increasingly exhausted,the ocean has become another efficient place to get resources.Recently, China has put forward the strategy of developing ocean.With the concept of the blue economy proposed, the concerns on the ocean are increasing and the development of marine economy is accelerating. As an important part of marine resources, marine fisheries resources play an immeasurable role in promoting economic development in coastal areas and in related industries.At present, researches on the contribution of marine fisheries are mainly focused on the growth rate and the changes in the structure of marine industry. However, there are few researches on establishing the evaluation index system of marine fisheries or analyzing the contribution of marine fisheries by using quantitative methods.By determining the marine fisheries’contribution, adminstrative departments may find problems in marine fisheries and marine economic development in order to make relevant policies. This paper is mainly focused on the marine fisheries’contribution to marine economy in China. The contribution is measured and calculated by qualitative and quantitative methods. The advantages, disadvantages, opportunities and challenges in the development of marine fisheries are analyzed by SWOT and the influencing factors on contribution of marine fisheries are also analyzed. On this basis, principal component analysis and Solow-Swan model are used to analyze the effects of marine fisheries by using panel data model. Finally, some recommendations are given according to the present situation. There are seven parts in this paper.Part Ⅰ:Introduction. This part dissertates the significance of the selective subject, the research actuality, as well as the research ideas, methods and innovations.Part Ⅱ:Definition of related concepts and theoretical overview. This part mainly defines the concept of marine economy, fisheries, marine fisheries, and contribution. The economic growth theories are summarized and the necessity of the calculation of the marine fisheries’contribution to marine economy is proposed.Part Ⅲ:Present situation of the marine fisheries and the marine economy in China. This part mainly summarizes the situation of the development in marine fisheries, including the existing problems and challenges in China. The development of the marine economy is analyzed through SWOT analysis and the influencing factors of the contribution of marine fisheries are pointed out, such as capital, labor, technology, natural resources, rules and regulations.Part Ⅳ:The construction of calculation model. This part puts forward six calculation methods of the contribution of marine fisheries to marine economy. The correlation between the marine fisheries and the marine economy is analyzed. Then the calculation methods of the contribution of marine fisheries are constructed.Part Ⅴ:The research on marine fisheries’ contribution to marine economy in China. Three methods including the traditional measuring method, the method based on principal component analysis and the method based on Solow-Swan model are applied to calculate the marine fisheries’ contribution to marine economy. And the calculated results are further analyzed.Part VI:The analysis of the effects based on panel data model.This part begins with the statistical analysis, including unit root test, co-integration analysis, Granger causality analysis, and dynamic analysis based on VAR model.Then, panel data model is applied to make a comprehensive empirical analysis of the contribution to marine economy through the data of the 11 coastal provinces in China.Part VII:Suggestions.According to the above qualitative and quantitative analysis and empirical research, some suggestions for the development of marine fisheries in China are propsed.Through the calculation of the marine fisheries’contribution to marine economy, the results show that the marine fisheries in developed marine economic areas maintain a good momentum of development. And conversely, the good momentum also promotes the development of the marine economy. Finally some suggestions are proposed, such as concentration on marine fisheries’sustainable development, optimization of the marine fisheries’industry structure, strengthening the mechanism of marine fisheries, and improving science and technology in marine fisheries.
