From the Nanjing national government which was established in 1927 to the year of 2000, Nantong fishery modernization went through a period of extraordinary journey. Among this, the fishery modernization not only experienced the preliminary development and hindering in the Nanjing national government, but also experienced the fishery recovery and the restart of fishery modernization and also certain development from the liberation to before the Reform and Opening up. After the Reform and Opening up, the development of fishery modernization speeds up.In this process, the development of Nantong fishery production, fishermen, fishing villages and fishing port moved towards modernization little by little. In terms of fishery production, the fishing boats and fishing net produced in Nantong improved and innovated gradually in the foundation of heritage. After the Reform and Opening up, the production of modern fishing boats and fishing net became large-scale. The fishermen’s production custom, life custom and belief had also been changed.As for the modernization construction of fishing villages and fishing port, before liberation, though the construction of fishing villages and fishing port gained some concerns, the fishing village gained only decay but no construction at all, the construction of fishing port also made little progress. After the Liberation, the Party and Government made the renovation and preliminary construction for Nantong fishing villages, and the construction of the fishing port were put on the agenda and got started officially. Since the Reform and Opening up, the construction of modern villages(region) and the fishing port got more rapid development and promotion.When Nantong’s modernization of fishery production, fishermen, fishing villages and fishing port got gradually driving on, at the same time, the fishery management which had an important impact on the fishery modernization course also gradually moved toward modernization. Among them, the fishery production management not only pays attention to the organization and the system construction, but also promotes the modernization of fishery production management constantly through the fishery guidance and cooperation, collective fishery production and planning control, fishery production contract, fishery administration and target management; The management of fishermen and fishing villages also evolved from Baojia system which clamped the fishermen to the democratic management gradually. After the Reform and Opening up, modern management of fishermen and fishing villages(port) has been impeled gradually in the reform.As an important developing typical case of our country’s fishery modernization, the proceeding of Nantong fishery modernization has reflacted the intricacy and difficulty of Chinese fishery modernization. Nantong fishery modernization has made important contributions for Jiangsu even the National Fishery modernization. After the liberation, especially the Reform and Opening up, Nantong fishery modernization has played a decisive role than before, and plays its leading role in promotion and demonstration. Its process of development and promoting it also appears certain characteristics, and accumulates some valuable experience for Chinese fishery modernization. It undoubtedly provides certain references to continue promoting the fishery modernization in China nowadays.
