With the improvement of China's international status and the rapidly development of economy,the unique attraction of ancient Chinese culture and the international promotion of Chinese language, in recent years, the number of Chinese learners in the U.S has increased rapidly.Mandarin Chinese curriculum also became one of the most rapid developing foreign language curriculums in the U.S. In such circumstances, we should keep alert that Chinese teaching is not merely a language teaching, but has become an important window of mutual understanding and mutual exchanges for the people of China and United States. In the year2011, the draft of China's12th Five-Year Plan presented clearly, we should spread excellent national culture,"create a'culture Going out'mode, enhancing international competitiveness and influence of Chinese culture. Improve the national soft power."More and more Americans also feel that the traditional Chinese teaching cannot fully meet their needs. They are not satisfied with learning basic Chinese speaking and writing. They are eager to look into China and Chinese culture in depth. But up to now, most American schools and teachers still focus on language teaching, culture teaching always been ignored. Language teaching and culture teaching cannot combine very well. This will undoubtedly become a barrier on the way of Chinese language promoting in the U.S.In fact, Language and culture are not opposing. Teaching Chinese as second language is a language teaching, it's also a kind of culture teaching. Through four years'exploration and practice, South Central Kansas Education Service Center summed up a Chinese culture oriented teaching mode. Pave a new way of teaching Chinese in the U.S. I'm trying to figure out some useful factors to benefit our current teaching Chinese as second language in China. The thesis consists of four parts.Part one, the preface. Introduce the present Chinese teaching situation and challenge in the U.S and the reason of this research. Review and summarize the main progress and achievements of domestic and foreign culture teaching research field. It will be the background information of this thesis. This part will also explain the research purpose and the basic research methods.Part two, the Chinese culture oriented teaching mode. This part will talk about the concepts and the relationships among language, culture, language teaching, culture teaching. Introduce the Chinese culture oriented teaching mode in South Central Kansas Education Service Center. From five aspects: the theoretical basis, teaching goal, procedure, method and evaluation. This part will also summarize the main features of this teaching mode.Part three, the inspiration to teaching Chinese as second language in China. This part will compare the Chinese oriented teaching mode and current domestic or world Chinese teaching situations. To figure out the inspiration and realistic values of this mode from four aspects:teaching method, course setting, teaching material compilation and teacher training.Part four, the development and prospect of teaching Chinese as second language. This part will go through the previous parts, analysis the developing condition, trend and problems to be solved of teaching Chinese as second language.
