Modern Hunan Capitalist Development And The Revolution

From a theoretical perspective of The Marxistic tenets of political economy and new initial industrialization this dissertation studies the process of capitalist development in Hunan from the capitalist sprout in the late Ming Dynasty and the early Qing Dynasty to 1919, and discusses the interaction between the capitalist development and the Revolution of 1911 in Hunan. The whole dissertation consists of three parts; Preface, Main Body and Conclusion.The preface mainly sorts out the research achievement on Hunan Capitalism in academic circles since 1919 and summarizes the following aspects, specific time of the capitalist sprout in Hunan; the foreign capitalists ' economic invasion into Hunan; the stages of the capitalist developing history in modern Hunan ;the capitalist industry and mining in modern Hunan, and the relationship between the capitalist development and the Revolution of 1911 in Hunan. And it also makes clear that the study of Hunan capitalism is still a weak point of economic history study. For studies on commerce, agriculture, handicraft economy and finance of Hunan capitalism are still quite inadequate, and there no systematic and comprehensive work on Hunan capitalist study has been published, As to the relationship between the capitalist development and the Revolution of 1911,the previous stress are only laid on the capitalist development giving impetus to the Revolution of 1911pushing forward the capitalist development is shown by the academic circles. In addition, this dissertation interprets, defines and introduces a few theoretical concepts, such as capital, capitalism, capitalist sprout concerned in this dissertation and the related theory the new theory of initial industrialization, which is regarded as the key to the study goal of this dissertation, Finally, This dissertation introduces the train of thoughts and sequence of ideas of this dissertation.The Main Body is divided into 9 chapters and is illustrated according to the four stages of Hunan Capitalist development. By sparing the whole of chapter l,in the first stages, this dissertation discusses the capitalist sprout in Hunan from the late Ming Dynasty to the early Qing. In the second stage, with two chapters, it discusses the upsurge of commercial capitalism and the transmutation of commercial capitalism of the handicraft capitalist sprout in Hunan, the third stage discusses the upsurge ofindustrial capitalism, the development of handicraft capitalism, commercial capitalism and finance capitalism and their connection with the Revolution of 1911 in Hunan In addition, the Main Body part also holds that the western capitalists'infitration into Hunan economy influences to Hunan economy. This is the core of the whole dissertation and consists of 6 chapters, that is, from chapter 4to chapter 9 in the fourth stage, this dissertation spares chapter to argue the fast development of Hunan capitalism after the Revolution of 1911.Chapter One: the capitalist sprout in Hunan from the late Ming dynasty to the early -middle Qing Dynasty. This chapter mainly discusses the historical Presuppositions and specific presentations of the capitalist sprout. And it points out that the capitalist sprout in Hunan was closely related to the natural and geographical conditions, the development of commercial capitalism the continuous extension of social distribution and the activities of the out side merchants in Hunan, then it analyzes the capitalist sprout of several representative businesses in Hunan, such as textile industry, firecracker industry, tea industry, and so on. Finally, it concludes that the capitalist sprout in Hunan appeared in the late Ming dynasty and the early Qing dynasty, but it did not consist of many businesses, is developmental degree was not very high and its distribution in difference regions and business was not balanced.Chapter Two: the upsurge of the commercial capitalism in Hunan.
