A Depicting And Discussing Of Wangyun's Theory Of Chinese Characters

Wang Yun's Chinese philology theory is scientific and is of Chinese characteristic. Liushu theory is the frame of his theoretical system. The theory of Chinese characters' quxiang, the theory of phonograms, the theory of Chinese characters' development and the theory of ancient Chinese characters are the main parts. This thesis will discuss Wang Yun' s Chinese philology theory all-around in order to determine his position in Chinese philology and scholium. Maybe, this will be helpful to the construction and exploration of Chinese philology today.Wang Yun' s Liushu theory comprises the primary scripts and the changed scripts of self-explanatory characters, pictographic characters, associative compounds, phonograms, mutually explanatory or synonymous characters, phonetic loan characters.In Wang Yun's opinion, Chinese characters' quxiang is completed through seven methods. According to this theory, Wang Yun found the reasons of the wrong explanations in Shuo Wen Jie Zi and corrected them.Wang Yun believed that the phonograms has come forth in the early period of Chinese characters' creation. He defined fenbie characters and leizeng characters and therefore explained how a lot of phonograms formed.The theory of Chinese characters' development comprises five parts: What is the relationship between Chinese culture and Chinese characters; The exploration to Chinese characters is from ancient period to modern times; The meaning of the original form of a character in the earlier period of Chinese characters is same with the reversed form of it but there are some differences between them in the period of xiaozhuan; Some parts of the characters can be omitted when one character is put on the top of the other and combined a new character. The evolvement of Chinese characters inherits in the history.Wang Yun had acquired many outstanding achievements in the study of the ancient Chinese characters, such as testifying, correcting, supplying and confuting Shuo Wen Jie Zi by using all kinds of unearthedancient characters available at his time.
