From the foundation of TCSL discipline,its teaching methods have been updated constantly.Up to now,this discipline has made many positive achievements.As an important part of TCSL,Chinese character teaching remains one of the difficulties that teachers of TCSL need to overcome.From features of Chinese characters,it is difficult to recognizing,reading,writing even memorizing.The main task of Chinese character teaching is to assist students to improve the efficiency of learning Chinese characters.Teachers of TCSL should guide students to learn Chinese effectively in an appropriate way,and further lay a solid foundation for systematic Chinese learning.The theory of "six ways of constituting characters" in Explanation Of Script and Elucidation of Character accurately expounded the relationship between Chinese characters' form and meaning,and it is scientific and feasible to apply it to the teaching of Chinese characters in TCSL.Starting from the "six ways of constituting characters",taking examples from advanced Chinese characters teaching in Confucius Institute of Royal Cambodian Academy of Sciences,this thesis probes into the relationship between the teaching in middle and advanced Chinese characters and Chinese characters through teaching practice,it also expounds the functions of "six ways of constituting characters" in TCSL.Based on the theory of "six ways of constituting characters",this paper makes use of the theory of pictographic,associative compound,ideographic and ideophonetic,and combining with the author's practical experience to explain the methods of pictographic characters,associative compound characters,ideophonetic characters and ideographic characters,those method can approach in Chinese character teaching process.Meanwhile,combining with traditional Chinese character component teaching method,this thesis puts forward a teaching method aiming at making Chinese characters more interesting and eliminating foreign students' fear for Chinese characters.By means of questionnaire and the theory of "six ways of constituting characters",this thesis investigated the influence in intermediate Chinese learner in aspect of Chinese character learning,and the situation of Chinese teachers utilizing "six ways of constituting characters" in teaching Chinese characters,then analyzed and summarized the relevant survey data.Combining with the the textbooks used in Confucius Institutes,illustrated the feasibility of combining "six ways of constituting characters" withChinese characters teaching in Confucius Institutes.At last,it listed real cases of the author who taught Chinese characters in Confucius Institute by using "six ways of constituting characters".Based on relevant theoretical research and the author's reflection and summary,a number of teaching suggestions are offered for the application of "six ways of constituting characters" in the teaching of Chinese characters abroad.
