Generalized Development Theory

This dissertation is a study on development. In this dissertation, the research achievements of Development Economics will be summed up firstly. The research will try to give some re-thinking and answers to two questions: Why Structuralism failed to explain and resolve the economic developmental issues arose in developing countries? Another is why the study on development has not become a hot point in international academia. Based on the above, "the general theories of development" will be put forward. The general theories of development is the expansion of Development Economics. The general theories of development involves the study on economic development issues arose both in developing countries and in developed countries. The general theories of development also involves the study on economic development issues arose in one country, importantly involves the issues of harmonious development worldwide. The core of that theory is "the culture-institutions-policy model" which depicts how the three endogenetic factors interact in economic development.The dissertation has three parts: In Part One, the limitation of the development study will be pointed out. In Part Two, the general theories of development will be put forward and demonstrated. In Part Three, a new concept "induced development" will be introduced firstly, then the possibility and practicability of the culture-institutions-policy model will be demonstrated by a mathematical approach.The characteristics of this research are: 1. The general theories of development posed in this dissertation imply the new concept of development. 2. The research expanded the existing theories of development, and made it become a theory that fits realistic needs in globalization. 3. The systems analysis will be used in this research. 4. The dissertation suggested that culture is one of the endogenous factors of economic development. 5. The culture-institutions-policy model is significant. Because that model made Development Economics become an systematic theory, and designed a mode of harmonious development worldwide. 6. The research is interdisciplinary. 7. In this dissertation, some new concepts will be bring forward such as the general theories of development, the general issues of economic development, the culture-institutions-policy model, development multiplier, induced development.
