Regional land use difference is always a worldwide universal problem with regard to resource use, environmental protection and social economic development. It is resulted from the physical factors as well as the social economic development level. Therefore, it has attracted the attention of a large number of scientists both from natural side and social side for a long time.In this thesis, land use is regarded as an ecological economic compound system with the systematic theory view. Furthermore, the author argues that the essence of land use difference lies in the discrepancy of land use system structure. Under the guidance of theories of regional economics and land science, this dissertation focuses on studying spatially and temporally the causes and the resulting rules of land use difference at provincial level, applying the data of national land use present investigation and the related statistical material. It intends to shed light on the study of the regional difference and the optimization of the essential production factors (land, capital and labor, etc.) so as to benefit the national and provincial land use overall plan.Based on the existing researches, this thesis claims that land use difference is characterized by the man/land relationship. With the presence of land types, it reflects the achievements of the social and economic activities. Regarding land use as a dependent variable and urbanization, economic development, food security and ecological security as independent variables, the author examines the contribution of each independent variable to the land use difference among the provinces by using the single factor analysis first and then multi-factors analysis.Applying the data of nationwide land use present investigation and related statistical material, the author analyzes qualitatively and quantitatively the land use difference and its affected factors with a case study. The thesis provides an example for systematically study of land use dynamic change at regional level.Based on the rational consideration of land use difference among provinces, several kinds of mathematical approaches are conducted. Firstly, the author applies the multiple factors analysis to construct the correlation mathematical model. It provides a scientific basis for long-run forecast of nationwide and provincial land use in the future. Next, it makes relevancy analysis among cultivated land per capita, food per capita and GDP per capita and determines the relevancy by using grey mathematical method. Finally, it undertakes systematical assessment of land use present situation so as to show the regional difference of land use present situation and analyzes the compartment achievement. It thus provides an important reference basis for revising nationwide and provincial land use overall plan which will be undertaken. The author calculates the ecological footprint of Jingsu province in 1999 with the concept of ecological land, and explores its difference among provinces. The thesis provides an earlier study for drawing up the ecological land use planning of province.
