With the acceleration of economic globalization, China's enterprises face with ever new circumstances, counterparts and forms in competition, of which the typical character is that the individual competition between traditional industrial organizations, such as enterprises and farmers' households, is replaced by the cooperation and competition between strategic alliances, which is developing as a third resources-distribution mechanism between enterprises and market. Strategic alliance is regarded as the most important organizational innovation since 1990s, attracting more and more attention from all walks of life. However, study and practice on strategic alliance in China is far behind that in developed countries. In this field, the theoretic study at home mainly presents as the introduction of research results from foreign countries and the economic analysis on the mechanism of the strategic alliance. While such an introduction and analysis is far from integrity, and is not able to meet the requirement of the development of China's industries. This dissertation has been finished on such a background. In use of the theory of economics and management as the tool of analysis, it makes a systematic analysis and study on strategic alliance in the light of the present situation of China's industrial development and market conditions. Among diversified industries, dairy industry is taken as the target of study in this dissertation mainly based on the following reasons. First, China's dairy industry, regarded as a sun-rising industry either at present or in the future, is facing and will face with ever increasingly severer competition. Second, as stated in the following paragraphs, remarkable benefits can be obtained in dairy industry through forming strategic alliance, while the rapid development of the industry has provided enough dynamics and conditions for the forming of strategic alliance. Third, the author has an educational background of agricultural and forestry economics and management. This dissertation consists of three parts, namely introduction, seven-chapter main body and conclusion.Chapter I IntroductionIn this chapter, the following points are explained: the background, objective and significance of the study; an overview on the research progress both at home and abroad on strategic alliance and the development of China's dairy industry; methods and approaches of the study and some new ideas. Chapter II Strategic alliance and its basic theory This chapter serves as the basis of the analysis and points of view of the whole dissertation. Though strategic alliance is practiced by more and more enterprises and is increasingly improved, which has, as a new concept of competition, has drawn attention of scholars and entrepreneurs both at home and abroad, the accessible documents have only explained the basic concept of the strategic alliance's internal mechanism in one aspect or a few limited ones. Under such a background, the author has got a knowledge of the status quo of the development and research of China's dairy industry through consulting relevant materials about strategic alliance, and attempt to apply strategic alliance - a complicated and also effective policy of competition in dairy industry – a special and also ordinary undertaking to make a study through combing theory with practice. In this chapter, it analyses the formation, development, internal external implications and characteristics of strategic alliance, and also identifies the difference of organizational relationship inside the strategic alliance and that among conventional enterprises. Such a difference is in the level of strategy which is the fundamental requirement for the development of an industrial organization. Therefore, strategic alliance is neither simply a contract relationship between selling and buying, nor a carter or syndicate that restricts competition. At the same time, it is not the same as an enterprises' group. The difference between these two lies on whether the independence of...
