Automotive manufacturing was once the "pet" in the era of industrial economy, andhonored as " machine for changing the world", but nowadays, one new production mode ison its way of forming. That is Mass Customization, which has taken severe challenge againsttraditional Mass Production. Mass Customization is referred to as one special mass production, which is done oncustomized products or service. It combined "mass production" with "customization"together---both 2 concepts seem to be conflicting. Actually a close logical relationship can befound between them. The Mass Customization will lay great impact on the running &managing system of many current companies. With its forming all companies are undergoinga challenge and experiencing a great revolution. Those whoever have the capacity ofproviding more customized product or service will get greater advantage in competition. The author, on the basis of understanding of Mass Production and Mass Customizationtheory, with the fact of Auto manufacturing and in a manner of intensive operation-abilityanalysis, put forward some important materialization strategies that can be used during theperiod when Auto manufacturing transforms from Mass Production to Mass Customization. The article proposed "VRP modularization product develop & design strategy for MassCustomization". VRP, Variation Reduction Program, is one engineering theory for and solution to MassCustomization. It analyzed variation origin, studied how to reduce variation of product andmanufacturing structure, and finally designs & production of customized parts can be madein a cost-saving way. The author combined VRP theory with traditional modularization technology together,and suggested new method---parts develop & design renovation, namely VRP, to meet therequirement that Auto manufacturing needs to set up Mass Customization. Consequently thearticle indicated how to solve one of difficulties, modularization codification, came out one"Binary-Selection-Encoding" that serves VRP modularization-based Mass Customization,and explained the theory with the organization of multiple variety production of Auto part asone sample. Author also blended VRP modularization method and Computer Aid Designtechnology, and according to it generated modularization-based CAD management systemmodel and design principle for Auto parts and process flow. The article introduced "Model-C-modularization manufacturing facility reshufflestrategy on Mass Customization". According to the strategy of executing modularization, beginning with how to reshuffle IIIcurrent manufacturing facility and set up Mass-Customization-Production-featured line, andputting modularization fundamentals and Sweden-typed Auto production line into thedecision making of manufacturing facility layout, the author produced the concept ofModel-C-modularization manufacturing unit. The basic thought is, according to the principleof module, the author re-divided each module on the basis of its function, which is currentlyarranged under the principle of object specialization. That is to say, author divided thecurrent assembly line into separate and specialization-featured sub-function modules whileonly loose coupling among those sub-modules exists, and form a series of modularizationmanufacturing units. Inside each modularization manufacturing unit, with the help ofSweden-typed assembly line, author adopted line C, one layout type that functions as onekind of transition mechanism with certain cycle time and can adjust itself to meet the need oftask. In order to meet the function requirement of modules, with the C line layout as core andunder the principle of process as specialized as situation can allow, physical and humanresources can be distributed, and thus each sub-module can maximize its own function.
