At the present time, the competitive environment of Chinese manufacturing is changing from production-orientation to customer-orientation. To obtain competition advantage and meet challenge, the manufacturing enterprise must change the old production mode, and introduce into advanced production mode, so that it can satisfy individual customer needs while keeping mass production efficiency. Mass customization is one of the advanced production mode for the 21st century. Its core is increasing sharply of product diversity and customization, but cost does not increase. Its scope is mass production of customizing product or service. It can provide strategy advantage and economic value. Up to now, it has been recognized and adopted leading to great achievements. In this paper, we will discuss the origin of Mass Customization, the benefit to enterprise, and several key ability of realizing it. The paper analyzes that manufacturing enterprise of China meet difficulty and challenge. Manufactures in China should take different ways to mass customization based upon their own conditions .This paper discusses existing problems in traditional manufactures, and present ways for manufactures in China to implement mass customization.
