Research On Supply Management Of Spare Parts Of Process-Oriented Manufacturing Enterprises

In the era of network economy, passengers can compare the price of products cheaply and conveniently around the world through Internet. In this case, the focus of competition among enterprises is price, quality, speed and differentiation. Faced with fierce global competition, many process-oriented manufacturing enterprises of foreign country found factories in China, which makes process-oriented manufacturing enterprises of China lose the cost advantage of labor. Therefore, decreasing the cost of production is still a challenge posed each process-oriented manufacturing enterprises in China.The spare parts of process-oriented manufacturing enterprises have the important character of high shortage costs, which determines that spare parts must be supplied as soon as possible. However, because of the difficulty of the exact forecast of many spare parts, the management of spare parts puzzles the managers of firms frequently. The spare parts logistics had been focused much by the scholars and practitioners from suppliers or manufactures' perspective, and plenty of findings had been achieved. However, the research mostly focused on inventory modeling and lack of profound study on process-oriented manufacturing enterprises, as well as study on purchasing mode and supplier management of spare parts. In addition, the production equipment of process-oriented manufacturing enterprises depends on imports mainly In China, and the scales of the firms are small popularly compared with foreign process enterprises. The author found that the overstock and obsolescence of spare parts in process firms was amazing in China through practical project and investigation. So, it is very necessary to research the supply management of spare parts of process firms.This thesis has wholly studied the spare parts management. The inventory theory adaptation to spare parts management from the process firms' perspective and the improvement of supply of spare parts from organization's perspective were researched, and supply mode as well as management tactics of spare parts, Improved ABC Classification Model of Spare Parts Inventory, Pull Policies for Spare Parts Purchasing, Two-Echelon Storage Mode of Spare Parts based on industry were put forward in this thesis.Confronted with the variety of spare parts demand in process firms, the view of normal demand and Exceptional Demand of spare parts was put forward, and their scopes were defined. Furthermore, the five strategies of the selection of spare parts replacement of preventive maintenance of devices, spare parts coding, logistics systems establishment, development of warehouse management information system and development of suppliers were put forward based on system perspectives.ABC classification model is adopted popularly as analytical tool in spare parts warehouse management information system of manufacturing firms. The implication of slow moving spare parts and fast moving spare parts was compared, and the limitation of ABC classification model for spare parts management in manufacturing firms was analyzed. Furthermore, the improved ABC classification model of spare parts inventory was put forward, and the improved model was much verified through examples. EOQ model is used popularly by manufacturing firms for spare parts purchasing, but one of the assumptions of the model is no out of stock. However, many scholars studied the EOQ model of absence of spare parts admitted. The pull policies for spare parts purchasing combined with the consumption characteristics and criticality of spare parts, as well as the phase of life cycle of the equipment including stock-out determination model and lot size of purchasing model was put forward, which more accords with the situation of manufacturing firms and can improve the performances of spare parts management greatly, and can be realized easily in warehouse management information system.
