A Study Of Development Of Guilin

Modern development or modernization is a world-wide theme. Urbanization and urban development is the core of modernization. This dissertation conducts a comprehensive study of development of Guilin, by means of history and logic, demonstration and comparison, with basic principles of Marxism and theories of history,modern economics and development sociology guiding the research and basic contents of theory of modernization constituting the framework, comprehensively exploring the kind and functions,city image, leading industry, industrialization, market, urbanization and zoological development of Guilin.As a regional center in the northeast of Guangxi and a central tourism city of China, Guilin plays a important role in geographic division of labor in Guangxi and even the whole country: From the viewpoints of its status of the geographic division of labor in China Guilin ranks among the most important tourism cities in China, with its rich resources of natural beauty of scenery and its historical culture. From the viewpoints of its status and role in regional geographic division of labor Guilin acts as a leading force not only in tourism but in other industry of Guangxi as well. The tourism industry is not the only factor advancing development of the city, although Guilin is a world-famous city in China. The overall development of a tourism city must depend on other industries and causes, including sustainable development of economy, zoology and society. However, up till present, most of the studies of Guilin are concentrated on tourism and culture, comprehensive studies of the city are lagging behind. Therefore, a comprehensive penetrating study of Guilin is beneficial not only for overall concerted and sustainable development of Guilin itself , but also for healthy development of other cities of the kind in China .This is the purpose and intention of my writing of the dissertation.The forewords of the dissertation introduces academic and practical values of the research work, gives a account of the related studies done before and the materials needed for the research ,gives a theoretic framework of the dissertation and methods of study.Chapter one gives a general account of development process of Guilin and its development of all the stages ever since the founding of the People's Republic of China.From chapter two to chapter seven the dissertation gives detailed analysis of the development conditions, structure , characteristics , problems , causes and solutions in the main fields of Guilin. This is the main components of the dissertation .Chapter two gives an account of the historical changes of the city image ofmodern Guilin ,analyzes the characteristics of the construction of the city and the significance of the enhancement of the city image for sustainable development of Guilin. Examines the city construction from the viewpoints of sustainable development with humanity being the most important concern .Believes that the achievements of city construction in the new stage lies not mainly in external enhancement of the city image .but in the maintenance and expanding of the characteristics, that is ,the natural beauty of the hills and rivers and the abundance of its historical culture .Chapter three analyses tourism the leading industry of Guilin .compared with other papers ,this dissertation has some special characteristics (1)illustrates tourism as the leading industry of the city ,thus determining its kind from perspectives of comparative advantages ,the output proportion ,rate of growth, advancement of other industries,distribution of labour and the prospect of the development .(2)Has a full analysis of long-term periodical and seasonal changes of the tourist market .(3) Analyses the importance ,change and steadiness of the tourist market of some foreign countries in order to fix the market orientation.(4)Gives tourism of Guilin a macro-thinking that tourism in Guilin should be steered by the concept of sustainable development.Chapter four gives a brief account of the process of industrialization of Guilin.
