Based on the land evaluation researches of both domestic and abroad, significances and problems as well as guidance theories and general thoughts about farmland classification, this paper mainly focuses on the methodology and data gathering of farmland classification by taking Guangxi Zhuang Minority Autonomous Region as an example. And the results about farmland classification are being further discussed on the aspects of the farmland productivity potential analysis, the balance examination of the total amount of arable land, the farmland productivity calculation and the fundamental farmland protection area demarcation as well.Through collecting, sorting and analyzing a great amount of land evaluation datum of both internal and external, land evaluation is making its way for synthesis, multianalysis, exactness, quantification and information system management. To establish a comparable trans-region land evaluation grading system is the actual demands for realizing the land management change from the view of quantity to quality. Therefore, the Research on Farmland Classification Program is brought forward by using computer technology.Multi-level grades for farmland classification will be composed of farmland physical grade, use grade and grade. Aiming at the current situation in China, the general thoughts for farmland classification is as the following: the comparable farmland classification results, in the leadership of provincial-level land departments, will be got through adjusting its results within the county-level by taking county as the basic area under the frame of national parameters like temperature productivity and standard cultivation systems. Based on the above, the trans-region and horizontal comparable farmland classification results at city-level, provincial-level and national level will be achieved through examining, controlling, adjusting, balancing, linking up and gathering level by level.The Regulations on Farmland Gradation and Classification has being formulated by absorbing relevant farmland classification results and methodology, in which many indices are covered such as work procedure, grade unit divisiory, temperature productivity potential, land use coefficient, land use grade index calculation, land economic coefficient calculation, area collecting, results demands, check and accept etc.How to realize the horizontal comparable results is one of the key characteristics to differentiate the farmland classification from land evaluation. In the paper, data collecting technology about trans-region and horizontal comparable farmland classification is put forward and further discussed, i.e. the farmland classification results system is being set up by examining standard food output, grade controlling, adjusting, balancing, linking up and area collecting.A case study has been done in Guangxi Zhuang Minority Autonomous Region. It is proved that what are put forward in the paper, like the general thoughts, classification regulations and collectingtechnology about farmland classification, is quite feasible.Moreover, a research about farmland classification results applied in farmland productivity potential analysis, balance examination of the total amount of arable land, farmland productivity calculation and fundamental farmland protection area demarcation is also being studied in Guangxi Zhuang Minority Autonomous Region, Hebei Province and Shanxi Province. Some new concepts and thoughts are put forward.
