The sustainable development is the goal that the social economic system pursue for a long time,so the researchers have performed many studies on aim, evaluation, means of sustainable development and many other fields. First significance choosing the issue is given in the dissertation. It overviewed the current researching situation of the sustainable development, in particular, measuring models of sustainable development and its classification according to different criterion,introduced a lot of popular methods such as UNCSD, IUCN, OECD and so on and selected the material flow, ecological footprint and emergy analysis models as main studying target to evaluate level of sustainable development of Xinjiang. The third, fifth, seventh chapter expounded the present study situation, purpose, constructing mechanism and specific application on material flow, ecological footprint and emergy analysis method, and made the proper adjustment for models in order to apply it in the term of regional sustainable development. Moreover, in the forth chapter, a amount of data and datum of Xinjiang is collected according to the requirement of models and the material flow index of Xinjiang from 1993 to 1999 is calculated (because of lack of domestic trade data of 2000-2003). The paper concreted the material flow of 1998 account as example, elaborated the state of material flow of Xinjiang in 1998 and calculated, explained and analyzed the total input of material of Xinjiang, input of direct material, total output of material and other indexes of material flow, specifically compared these indexes with data of other countries. The sixth chapter calculated the ecological occupy and ecology load capacity of Wusu city in Xinjiang by ecological footprint model. It is concluded that Wusu city is in unsustainable state of development at present. The chapter measured the ecological diversity and developing capability of Wusu city,compared it with the other cities of whole China and the Northwest , discovered the two indexes steadily increasing. The eighth chapter calculated round thirty indexes such as the emergy flow of renewable resource and unrenewable resource, emergy monetary ratio, emergy monetary value, emergy self-sufficiency ratio,emergy per person. The amount of emergy of reserved resources in Xinjiang also is calculated. As the results of calculating by the three models, the dissertation gives these suggestions to develop Xinjiang and Wusu city. Furthermore, the ninth chapter came up with the solution from the three models, evaluated the sustainability of Xinjiang development, give the specific methods and means in production mode, ecological construction, utilization of resources, domestic and international trade, industrial structure, consumption mode and so forth.
