| At present, there are 90 colliery cities, 15% of the total number of the cities in our country. Most of the colliery cities were born along with the development of coal resource and this originally resulted in a single industrial structure. And the further exploration of the coal resource causes the contraction of the resource, so it's inevitable and necessary for the colliery cities to be in transition. This essay makes systematic study of a series of problems in relation to the economic transition of colliery cities, trying to solve the theoretical and practical comprehensively and systematically. 1. The definition of colliery cities in this essay is as follows: It's a city at the state administratively dominated county level or above the county level developed with the coal resource exploitation and coal mine as well as the infrastructure energy industry play a leading role in the city's economy. The population of the mine area is over 1/3 of the city population. Colliery cities have made great contribution to the formation of infrastructure industry, advancing urbanization, and promoting the development of regional economy, but meanwhile, colliery cities pay a heavy environmental price in the course of self-development. The economic transition of colliery cities refers to the penetrating adjustment and complete transition of the city economic structure and economic operating mechanism by means of economic restructuring, mechanism and science and technology innovation, thus forming new continuous leading industry, taking the place of single colliery economy, and the colliery cities can develop into new modern cities. 2. In order to accomplish the task of economic transition, cost is to be paid. The costs of economic transition of colliery cities refer to the costs needed to be by government, enterprises, society and individuals in the process of realizing the target of economic transition.
