This dissertation directed by the relative theories and approaches of International relations research, begins with analyzing the economic cooperative relations of Japan and ASEAN, proceeds to research on the tentative plan put forward by Japan that is to further construct East Asia Community, then reveals the historical background, concrete contents and strategic purpose, analyzes the reaction of neighboring countries and brings forward the corresponding policies China should take.This dissertation mainly includes seven chapters with the exception of introduction and conclusion. Chapter one is on the analysis of relative theories and definition of concepts. Chapter two is a comprehensive retrospect of economic and trade cooperative relations of Japan and ASEAN in Cold War period including the effect of economic interaction between them. Chapter Three puts emphasis on the economic and trade cooperative development of Japan and ASEAN after Cold War, especially in the period around Asia financial crisis. Chapter Four analyzes the reasons that Japan proposes to establish East Asia Community and its concrete contents, and also treats of the efforts Japan has made in recent years to realize its tentative plan after the collapse of its bubble economy, and also includes bilateral free trade agreements between Japan and some East Asia countries. Chapter Five is mainly a research on the strategic purpose that Japan proposes to establish East Asia Community. Chapter Six begins with analyzing the subjective and objective conditions for constructing East Asia Community and studies the feasibility of realizing East Asia Community.
