A number of conclusions are drawn basing on the research work so far on the philosophical and educational ideology of Zhu Xi, one of the great masters in the history of Chinese culture. A study on his educational ideology is ventured from a different perspective in this dissertation. In the analysis of documents, we find that, though there are numerous works concerning Zhu Xi's educational ideology, there still remain necessities for further research on it. 1) Most of the earlier researches on Zhu Xi's educational ideology are adhered to the researches on the history of education, comprehensiveness of educational ideology history, dynastic history, or Zhu Xi's philosophical ideology. However, monographs on his systematic educational ideology are rarely found. We hold that these researches are far from sufficient for such a great ideologist and educationalist, and that monographs with sufficient length on his educational ideology are necessary. 2) In the researches on Zhu Xi's educational ideology, studies are so insufficient on the objective bases for its development and subjective conditions for the construction of such a huge educational ideology system, that the tangible mastery of it would be affected. 3) Most of these researches fail to provide a detail discussion on the essence of Zhu Xi's educational ideology system by taking it for granted as a presupposition of truth. Detailed and complete discussions on what his educational ideology system really is are rarely found. For all these reasons, we venture to put forward and expatiate on the following issues: 1) the objective bases for the development of Zhu Xi's educational ideology system. On the one hand, we will observe the cultural environment, in which much emphasis was placed on education, derived from the enormous changes both politically and culturally in Song Dynasty, from a macroscopic perspective. On the other more important hand, an observation is offered on the unique humanistic environment from the viewpoint of northern Fujian culture and geology in the Southern Song Dynasty, so as to find out the deeper reasons for the rise of such a great educationalist after Confucius in such a remote mountainous area, by concentrating on the various advantages of northern Fujian in the Southern Song Dynasty. 2) Detailed discussions on the subjective conditions for the construction of Zhu Xi's educational ideology system, esp. his all-sided and vivid life in education, including his schooling, self-studying, studying tour, visiting-studying, school-running, teaching, and his advice on studying, as well as discussions on his spiritual personalities. We intend to expatiate concretely and historically on the internal connections between his educational ideology, system and his abundant education practice. 3) An embedded research on the methodology of the construction of Zhu Xi's educational ideology system. We attempt to methodologically probe into the construction of Zhu Xi's educational ideology system, from the characteristics of the comprehensiveness of it, its broadness, hierarchy, regularity, logicality, etc. in order to provide methodological bases for the construction of Zhu Xi's educational ideology system.
