Study On The Academy Spirits Of Academies' Masters In Southern Song Dynasty

In the history of China's academy's development, the academies in the period of Southern Song Dynasy reached its full swing. The research on the masters of the Academy in Southern Song Dynasy has always been one of the key contents in studying China's academies by all Chinese and overseas scholars. Selecting the four most reknowed masters of academy in Southern Song Dynasty as examples, The paper systematically studys the academy spirits of the masters of the academy in Southern Song Dynasty.The paper consists of four chapters: Chapter 1 is a preface which defines the key concepts of the paper, analyses the significance of the research on the topic and finally introduces the related preference books and theses. In chapter 2, a detailed research has been conducted on the contents of the academy spirits of the masters of the Academy in Southern Song Dynasty. They are: 1 The coexistence of the different schools'thought, The absorption of all the excellence from all other schools. 2 Allow debate freely among different thoughts of schools while giving lectures. 3 Learn for the righteousness of the academy, not for individuals'position and wealth. 4 The essence of learning lies in the pursuit of practice. 5 Combine learning with thinking for the purpose of innovation in academy. In chapter 3, from political, economical and cultural and individuals'aspects, an analysis has been given to trace the reasons for the origins of academy spirits of the masters of Academy in Southern Song Dynasty. The last chapter studys the modern values of the academy spirits of the masters of Academy in Southern Song Dynasty from four aspects. 1 contributions towards coexisting different cultures of the world and building a harmonious socialist society. 2 contributions towards advocating academic freedom and promoting academic democracy in higher education. 3 contributions towards cultivating students'right values and encouraging students to practise the unity of learning and practice. 4 contributions towards carrying forward the academic innovation in higher education and cultivating students'innovative spirits.Synthesizing the four chapters, the outstanding academy spirits of the masters of Academy in Southern Song Dynasty clearly appeared before us. Southern Song was a time with flourishing academies, the academy spirits of the masters of academies in Southern Song Dynasty had great influence on academies'development. Since the research done in the past about this topic was inadequate, I select this topic for the hope of coming up with valuable opinions.
