Study are conducted on teachers engaged in vocational education in the present dissertation. Major p roblems currently exis ting in the process of vocational teacher professionalization are ret hought profoundly from such pe rspectives as connotative understanding, development objectives, development system, and safe guard system . Theories about teacher professional deve lopment and those on vocational technical education are used as guidelines while fo llowing the thinking of"interpreting connotation, rethinking present situation, and developing st rategies"and focusing on teacher professionalization. In this dissertation, systematic and scientific thinking and methodology are ado pted to actively expl ore a path for vocational teach er professionalization with Chinese characteristics.This dissertation consists of six chapters.In Chapter One: Introduction, results fr om domestic study on vocational teacher professionalization are summarized so as to illustrate problems existing in ex isting study and outlin e th e research thinking an d fram ework of this d issertation and possible inn ovations. A s teach er professiona lization has b een a m ain trend in th e development of teacher professional deve lopment, to conduc t study on vocational teacher professionalization is a call of the current development and a response to such a call.In Chapter T wo, the connotations of vo cational teacher pro fessionalization are interpreted. The teaching profession has been developing from empiricism, arbitrary behaviors to professionalizati on. Due to the characteristics of vocational education, education objects, training objectives, a nd the requirem ents of m odern vocational education on vocational education teacher s, connotations of vocational teach er professionalization are multidimensional and developing and professional knowledge, professional ability, professional morals, professional spirit, professional authority and autonomy shall be invo lved. Vocational teacher professionalization is the course in which vocational teach ers get professionaliz ed and socialized. V ocational teach er professionalization is a histo rical necessity a nd a sc ientific option to rea lize th e sustainable development of vocational education in China.In Chapter Three, existing gaps in terms of vocational teacher professionalization and the strategy of developm ent are proposed. The existing problem s a mong vocational s chool teach er are insuf ficient quan tity, low qu ality, and u nreasonable structure. Gaps exist among vocational teach ers in term s of developm ent objective, source, orientation training and in-servi ce training. The author holds that a development strategy shall be developed for vocational teacher professionalization by clearly defining the developm ent objectives , com pleting the training system and consummating the safeguard system.It is eluc idated in Chapter Fo ur that to cultiv ate"teach ers with dual qualifications"is the development objective of vocational teacher professionalization."Teacher with dual qu alifications"is a con cept of vocatio nal develop ment for al l vocational teachers and also the developm ent objective for vocational teach er professionalization. The basic conn otations of"teacher with dual qualifications"are analyzed from a multidimensional perspective to explore its implication in vocational education. It is revealed through a status quo survey that the main problem existing in building up a team of"teachers with dual qualifications": there is no explicitly defined standard, no scientific training method, no powerful attractive m echanism, and no effective managem ent m echanism. The construction of professional norm s for"teachers with dual qualifications"is also discussed in this chapter.In Chapter Five, the sy stem to cultivate voc ational teacher professionalization, namely, professional vocational teacher education, is discussed. Main problems in the development of vocational teacher education include academic quality versus normal education characteristics and te chnical f eatures and the separation of pre-service education from orientation education a nd in-service trainings. A professiona l vocational teacher education strateg y shall be established in term s of t he following aspects: consummating the integrated obje ctive for vocational teacher education, shaping up an integrated structure of vo cational teacher education, es tablishing a vocational teacher edu cation p attern of three dim ensions in cooperation, and developing vocation al teacher education c ontents th at integrate acad emic quality , normal education characteristics, and technical features.In Chapter Six, a quality saf eguard sys tem for vocation al teach er professionalization in which the Teacher's qualification system plays a dominant role is exp lored. One of the basic m easures for the estab lishment of teacher professionalization lies in im proving vocational qualifications by the use of teacher qualification certificate and illus trating the teache r pro fession's s pecialization, technicality, and nor malization characteristics. To carry out a system of vocational teacher qualification is propitious to refl ecting the ch aracteristics of teachers, controlling the qualification norms, optimizing the contingent of teachers, shaping up a divers ified teache r c ultivation m echanism, and attractin g excellent talen ts. Ma in problems in the vocatio nal teacher qualification system are resulted from such fact s that there is no independent qualification system, that qualifications are less strict, that the accreditation process is irregular, that the accreditation process is less flexible, and that there lacks a re-accreditation system . Professional counter -measures for the construction of vocational teacher qualifica tion system are brought forth with a view on qualification system management, criteria for qualification application, contents of the qualification system, and the implementation of the qualification system.The conclusion is that it is necessary and possible to develop vocational teacher professionalization. Vocational teacher professionalization is a field to which attention is paid in vocation al education all over the world. T o realize vocational teache r professionalization in C hina, it is n ecessary to set f oot on China's specific situation and the status quo of vocational education in China and use for reference beneficial experiences in the development of vocational teacher professionalization in developed countries so as to accelerate the sustain able development of vocational teach ers in China. Teacher profess ionalization is an inevitable op tion for the developm ent of vocational teachers in China. The future of vocation al teacher s in China will be hopeful if only innovations and advancem ents can be realized in term s of epistemology and methodology.
