In this research, the importance of teaching cases to teacher professional development is addressed from the perspective of the context and the experience, and the rationales for providing case based learning support for professional development is pointed out. The transformation process of teacher's experiential knowledge is investigated from the angle of recon textual ization and decontextualization, and a SECI cycle model of teaching cases is also proposed, which is a model of case knowledge creating process.A learning support framework, named Case Based Learning Support Framework (CBLSF) is proposed, which combines the SECI cycle and case-based reasoning (CBR) mechanism. This framework is used to create a case-based learning environment, in which the SECI cycle and CBR mechanism are coupled to support teacher's professional development.This research attempts to solve three problems: (1) how to represent the case in the CBLSF, (2) how to use this framework to support professional development, and (3) how to implement the CBR mechanism in this framework. The ontology-supported CBR technology and an application framework specifically are analyzed.Based upon a comprehensive study of various technologies, a prototype of the CBLSF system is designed, which is implemented using open source software. The prototype uses the semi-structured method to represent case knowledge, which is organized and indexed in subject and context dimensions. Finally, the effectiveness of prototype is analyzed through a tryout in a certain scope.
