Research On University Development In The Perspective Of University Culture

From the multi-subject aspects of higher education, culture, and sociology, this research tries to carry out the theoretical exploration into the cultural rationale and the organization development of university, a peculiar human cultural institution. It seeks the cultural logic of how university develops by examining university under the perspective of university culture. Thus in this research, the relationship between culture and university is regarded as the core, university culture as a core factor during the university development, and university culture, a concept implying multi-level meanings as the logistic starting point. By undertaking historical analysis, comparative research, case study, dialectic analysis of going from the abstract to the concrete, entering on the analysis of university and the factors in its cultural structure, the thesis conducts the exploration into the concept, essence, connotation, characteristics, structure and functions of university culture. It further discusses the history, current situation of university culture and the problems it's facing. From the aspects of four factors, namely scale, quality, structure and benefits, several relations have been interpreted, the relations between spiritual culture, institutional culture, material culture and environmental culture of universities and university development. And how university culture functioning and what mechanism working on university development are also pointed out. Based on the above discussion, the relations between university culture and university development is augured and analyzed with the application of positive research. In the end, the research on university culture is put into practical discussion about university development, how to strengthen the cultural construction at university is mentioned, and the basic countermeasures of promoting university to undergo the all-round, harmonious and sustainable development are put forwards, based on which, a new theoretical perspective of research on university development is explored.The main content and basic conclusions could be presented as following points. Firstly, the theoretical reasons for university culture and university development were explored. On the basis of focusing on the discussion of the essential theories, such as concepts, connotation, rationale and structure of university culture and university development, the thesis argues that university culture is a combination of material and spiritual achievements known as university ideas, university spirits, university missions, academic atmosphere, university institutions, values, style and atmosphere of study, scientific and technological products, campus environment, modes of behaviors, etc., which are shaped and created by teachers and students and passed down from generation to generation. The basic rationale includes three aspects, namely university spiritual culture, institutional culture, and material and environmental culture, which exist as being co-related. And university development is a process for university's number increasing, structure optimization, quality improvement and fine benefits. Thus there has an interactive and co-existing relation between university culture and university development, meanwhile, advanced knowledge acts as the bridge connecting the two.
