At the end of the 20th century, with the restructuring of china's economic system and the continuing expansion of the scale of the higher education, the highly centralized management system, which is universally implemented by universities under the planned economic system, is increasingly unable to meet the needs of the development of universities. To deepen the reform of internal management system and set up such a system that suits China's market economy and adapt to the system of mordent universities is a common and urgent task faced by universities. The core of building a contemporary university system is to establish the value and promote the freedom of academy. In terms of the management system in university, the purpose is to let the professor own the right to mange academy through the democratic management internally, which is called"professor managed academy". The kernel of the reform of internal management system of modern university is the transition from progress management to goal management, from identity management to post management. To achieve these transitions, universities must give some power up; let the obligation, right and interest integrated. When the departments of colleges and universities explore the new system which can suits China's socialist market economic system, Professor Committee came into being.This paper will study the theory and practice of China professor committee from both horizontal and vertical dimensions. And it focuses on the following points: Firstly, Chinese professor committee takes dean as the head of the committee based on all other people's opinion. Secondly, Chinese professor committee's functions of decision and consideration are shown by management of teaching, researching and studying. Thirdly, it is the essential of Professor managed academy in stead of Professor managed college. Last, as this is a new alchemical organization. There are some aspects which need improving and developing in the future.This paper, except introduction and conclusion, is divided into five parts. Chapter1 is mainly to analyze the evolution progress of our country and foreign countries, especially contemporary universities, to illustrate the relationship between Professor Committee and contemporary universities system from a broaden outlook, and based on this to explain the background of the establishment of Chinese committee; chapter 2 analyze the essential characters of"Professor managed academy"of Chinese Professor Committee; chapter 3 illustrates the operating progress, practice positioning and actual results of the Chinese Professor Committee from the research of the cases in relevant domestic colleges; chapter 4 mainly studies the main functions of the Chinese Professor...
