The purpose of this study is to find out the basic educational function of Tibetan primary school from Tangke Tibetan Primary School.Tangke Tibetan Primary School is in Northeast Sichuan A Ba Autonomous Prefecture Ruoergai country. Tibetan and Qiang ethnic groups are the main population here. The school can represent many other schools in Tibetan area, Because of the nature/ humanities ecological environment, students' national status, the opportunities and challenges and so on. Therefore, it is full of theory and practice meaning for the basic education of Tibetan area that to inspect problems and propose solutions of the function of basic education.The train of thoughts and core view of this article is as follows:First, the value pursues and practice strategy of educational function was pondered and allocated from the theory perspective by this study. Educational function is a three-dimensional system with multi-directions and multi-levels. People can recognize and understand it from different disciplines standpoint. The educational function performances for many kinds of value pursue and practice operation. However, its core point and standpoint ought to foster student's basic survive conscious and cultivate the survival skills.Second, take the elementary theory ponder which just referred as a premise, the author did omni-directionally field research in Tangke Tibetan Primary School for revealing the function of basic education in hide. This thesis proposed that Tangke Tibetan Primary School as representative of Tibet area education confront stern challenges in function display. With the Tibetan traditional pasture life style moving to multi-types life style, the sole cultural inheritance take turns to multi-culture blend. With these influences, education in Tibetan language changes to bilingual or three language education. All these factors facilitate the change of survival abilities of the new generation. This is the start point of reflection on Tangke Tibetan Primary School as representative of Tibet area education.Tangke Tibetan Primary School has some problems in function performances as following:1. The position of the basic value of the educational function is dislocating. Pursue of its educational function doesn't meet the students' survival need, but let students' learn something far from their real life. Therefore, the culture of this area is dispelled which is the inside cultural base of school. At the same time, with the challenges of the intrusion of major culture and modern culture, Tangke Tibetan Primary School hurry to face it and go with the stream. In this situation, the school can't absorb the essence of outside cultures. All this factors let the educational function of Tangke Tibetan Primary School neither protect the traditional culture nor absorb the outside culture successfully.2. The practice strategies of the educational function performance are not appropriate. Many educational practices focus on the knowledge which has little connection with the specific nature/ humanities ecological environment of students. Its purpose is encouraging students to take and pass various exams which have some culture annexation contents. This is the base of design of curriculum and its educational management. Meanwhile, the schools take a perfunctory attitude to the new curriculum reform, which emphasize on the school-based curriculum and area-based curriculum. Students learn little useful survival skills and get bad school achievements. These lead many serious results as following: students and their parents hold indifference attitudes toward school education; it's difficult to spread basic education; the percentage of stop schooling stays at a high level; teachers suffer from the frustration of education achievements and their work enthusiasm be constrained; and so on.These two points have close relationship with each other. The key reason is that the performance of educational function of Tangke Tibetan Primary School doesn't find the balance and adjust between the Tibetan nationality and modernity. As a result, school becomes an organization that is out of the local life world but is controlled by the outside power. The solutions are proposed as following:1. The basic value pursue of educational function of school is help the children have their own development, especially cultivate their survival abilities.2. The guides of the school education and management should be found from the students' survival needs.3. Enlarge the resources of the curriculums. On the one hand, develop independent vocational education on the base of students' need. On the other hand, the survival wisdom of the ethnic groups should be absorbed into the major curriculums.4. Optimize the educational management and change the evaluation types. This will encourage teachers' working enthusiasm. In this way, the enforcement of students' survival conscious and the development of student's survival abilities can be realize.
