Focusing on the higher vocational college graduates' employment of Guangdong Province, this dissertation attempts to solve some of the realistic problems of the graduates in employment, so as to provide strategy for the government departments, work units, higher vocational colleges. This dissertation is divided into six chapters. Chapter I is an introduction, which leads into the theoretical and practical significance of this research, the purpose, thought, contents, theoretical direction, and method of this thesis. Chapter II analyzes the need of development of the higher vocational education and the status quo of the talent cultivation in this area of Guangdong Province. Chapter III analyzes quantitatively and qualitatively the status quo of the higher vocational college graduates' employment of Guangdong Province. Chapter IV provides two cases: Panyu Polytechnic Institute, and Civil Aviation College GZ. Chapter V analyzes the four factors imposing influence on the employment of the higher vocational graduates, ie, the employment system, the education orientation, the education facilities, and the view on employment. Chapter VI discusses the strategy to achieve full employment for the higher vocational college graduates of Guangdong Province through the increase of positions, improvement of work conditions, cultivation of work ability, and change of view on employment. The Achievements of this dissertation lie in the following four aspects.First, through the analysis of the need and status quo of the development of Guangdong higher vocational education, this thesis suggests that the current higher vocational education cannot satisfy the social and economic development of Guangdong Province, so Guangdong needs to make great efforts to propel the development of its higher vocational education.Second, through investigation and analysis of the status quo of the higher vocational college graduates' employment, this dissertation, as a whole, shows that the higher vocational graduates of Guangdong have no difficulties finding jobs. However, graduates of different areas, colleges, background, subjects, origin, and sex have different experience in sphere of employment, salary and wages, degree of congruence between their specialty and work, degree of satisfaction, and the time spent finding jobs. With respect to graduates of different sex, the salary for male students differs to a comparatively great degree, with a considerable range between the highest and lowest salaries. However, the salary for the female graduates is relatively average. The female graduates treat the stability of life as the most important thing. On the contrary, the male graduates attach the most importance to development. The male graduates are more aware of the pressure of employment; but the female graduates feel more self-confident in employment. The male graduates are more active in the establishment of business, and make plans earlier than the female graduates . As for the problems resulting from the employment, the male graduates tend to solve them externally; whereas the female graduates tend to find internal solution. As for the choice of jobs, graduates specialized in pedagogics, graduates of colleges located in the Eastern area of Guangdong Province and in the mountainous area, graduates of colleges upgraded from the technical secondary schools, graduates of separately designed colleges, and graduates coming from villages and town tend to get jobs in time. However, graduates specialized in law, graduates of colleges located in the Western area and in the Zhujiang Delta, graduates who have ever studied in the adult schools, graduates of colleges attached to universities, and graduates of cities tend to study further or go abroad. As for the salary and wages of the graduates of Guangdong vocational colleges, those who graduate from the colleges attached to universities and those who come from the urban area may get a higher salary. But graduates of the colleges upgraded on the basis of technical secondary schools and graduates whose family is in the rural area may ask for a lower salary. As for degree of congruence between the specialty and work of the graduates, graduates specialized in pedagogics, graduates of public colleges, and graduates of colleges located in the Western part of Guangdong Province may make the specialty and work more congruent. Whereas for graduates of technical colleges and majored in technique, graduates of the private colleges, and graduates of the mountainous area, the congruence is not high. As for the degree of satisfaction, the employment is more satisfactory for graduates majored in the subject of management, graduates of colleges located in the Eastern part of Guangdong, graduates of the separately-designed colleges, and graduates who are permanent residents of the city. On the contrary, the employment is less satisfactory for graduates specialized in pedagogics and in technique, graduates of the mountainous area, graduates of the colleges upgraded from the technical secondary schools, and graduates who are permanent residents of the rural area. As for the time spent finding jobs, female graduates, graduates of law, graduates of the private colleges, graduates of the separately-designed colleges, and graduates who are permanent residents of the village go to work earlier. On the contrary, male graduates, graduates of pedagogics, graduates of public colleges, graduates who have ever studied in the adult schools, and graduates who come from the city tend to go to work later.Third, through the analysis of the factors imposing influence on the higher vocational college graduates' employment of Guangdong Province, this research shows that these factors include the systematic obstacle to employment, inaccurate orientation of the higher vocational education, deficiency of facilities, and deviation of the view on employment. The systematic obstacle to employment lies in the lower level of the market allocation, lag of permanent residence reform, affect of the divided labor market, chaotic recruitment and employment of the employing departments, lack of rules and regulations, and the imperfection of the vocational certificates system. The inaccurate orientation of the higher vocational education is implied in the following four elements: arbitrary or capricious behavior, tendency of subjects, goal above the reality, and urban orientation. The deficiency of facilities especially exists in the following, ie, unbalance of teaching equipment and facilities, lack of base for practical teaching, shortage of teaching staff, and low quality of the staff as a whole. The wrong view on employment includes the narrow-minded employment view, once-forever employment view, and pickiness in selection of positions.Forth, based on the successful experience of the developed countries and regions, the author offers four suggestions for the higher vocational college graduates' employment of Guangdong Province. They go as follows:through the enforcement of consistent development among the different areas, development of private economy, of tertiary industry and small and intermediate enterprises, and foreign trade, to increase job opportunities so that higher vocational college graduates have access to employment;through perfection of the employment system, promotion of the certificates system, reinforcement of the construction of the employment market, and establishment of employment system leading access to the rural area, to perfect the employment environment so that the graduates can find easy access to employment;through correction of the orientation of the colleges, increase of capital invested in the education, deepening of the teaching reform,to train the graduates to make them competent for the jobs offered; and through supervision on the graduates, to change their view on employment so that they will feel glad to accept jobs offered.
