Tennis sport is a typical skill-led antagonistic event of net-barrier and it formally became a competition event set up for the Olympic Games. Compared with table tennis and badminton, tennis sport started late in China and it does not have solid foundation, yet after Tennis Association of State Physical Cultural Administration has taken a series of measure in the purpose of developing Chinese tennis sport in recent years, Chinese women's tennis team has greatly improved its competitive skills and made exciting achievement in the international tennis world. Furthermore, the breakthrough made by Chinese women athletes in both singles and doubles has made the world come to see Chinese tennis in a new light. However, while our excellent athletes are making continuous breakthrough, most of the reserves still come after 100th in the world, posing no challenge for those excellent player. In the meantime, Chinese men athletes still come after 300th, which makes them even unqualified for taking part in such high level competition as ATP. Therefore, how to promote Chinese tennis sport to develop sustainably, healthily and stably has become an imperative subject for us to study.Referring to the theory of sustainable development, this thesis probes into the development history of Chinese tennis sport, as well as its present developing situation and sustainable development by adopting the methods of referring to documents, interviewing experts, making questionnaire, sampling statistical data and making comparative analysis. Furthermore, this thesis introduces the ideas of sustainable development into the practice of developing Chinese competitive tennis sport in the effort of constructing the basic sustainable development framework of our tennis sport and finding out the factors affecting the sustainable, healthy and stable development of Chinese tennis sport, which will not only actively promote the practice of the sustainable development of out tennis sport but also providing experiences and reference for the sustainable development of other events. The results are as following 1. Since the foundation of people's Republic of China Chinese women Tennis has always been developing, yet men tennis makes no progress.2. While the number of the professional tennis players is increasing gradually every year, the whole number reaches only over 900.As far as the distribution range of players is concerned, there are over 13 tennis teams in the east reaching the greatest number while only 5 teams reaching smallest number. In the middle part there are 7 professional teams. The provinces which have the greatest number of tennis players are Hunan, Hubei, Tianjin, Beijing, Liaoning, Shandong, Zhejiang and Henan.3.Chinese professional tennis player are mainly of grade-1 and grade-2 and few of them are ace tennis players. Furthermore, they have low academic credentials as well as no adequate physical trainings and few chances to participate in international competition, lacking of professional trainings and fees for competition. Players are good at baseline ball yet weak at receiving and serving balls. The playing skills mainly focus on comprehensive type and baseline type. The factors affecting the training of athletes mainly include the comprehensive qualities of coaches and the attention paid by leaders. The factors hindering the improvement of the playing skills are that training means are not advanced enough and athletes do not have enough chances to participate in the competition. The reason which causes the draining of athletes is mainly the lack of fund which comes from money raising by player themselves, national sponsoring and the assistance from such enterprises as clubs.4.Chinese professional coaches are mainly of young and middle ages. T heir academic credentials are mainly of bachelor's degree. And they have academic titles of middle rank with the teaching experiences of an average of 13 years. The ratio between teachers and students is 1 to 7. From the perspective of coaches, they think that the most essential skill is the serving skill and the most advantageous playing method is the comprehensive one. 73% of coaches hold the opinion that athletes take little participation in international competition and the keys factors affecting the training of athletes are the comprehensive qualities of coaches. According the survey, the factors affecting the working passion of coaches are salary and working conditions. The fact that coaches have low level of English has hindered then from learning the advanced skills from foreign nations and leading to low training level. Almost all coaches think that there is great necessity for them to get further training and study in their fields. At the same time they support athletes'activity of draining which originates from the level of athletes and the amount of the fund.5.The tennis referees of over national stage are of middle age with higher academic credentials. They have gotten involved in the job for a long time and therefore have high qualities. Lots of experiences in the grand competition have made them improved in mind, professional skill and practical experience as well, which laid very solid foundation for the successful holding of Olympic Games in 2008, National Games in 2009 and various tennis competition such as WTA and ATP.6. Sustainable development is a new and advanced concept about he development of human beings in the 1980s. And to develop sustainably is a definite choice and tendency for Chinese tennis sport.7. At present, we still do not have the mature objective conditions to set up a complete system for the sustainable development of Chinese tennis sport. Therefore, laying solid foundation and making progress gradually should be the guidelines for studying and setting up a system for sustainably developing our tennis sport.8. Of the staff factors the strength of reserves and the level of coaches come the first. At present our tennis sport are still not able to put professionalization and National System of Sports in China in contradiction. The funding model of tennis sport is diversified by common inputting of families, businesses and state. Our tennis sport still pays much emphasis on skills and less on physical power. The training spirit of starting from practice has never been fully fulfilled and training is still not signified for every single individual players. our competition in which system competition still has not exerted its leverage function need to be further improved. There are about 5000-1000 professional and amateur tennis players in China. The number of excellent women players is still too small and the reserves still have not posed challenge for the present excellent player both in skills and levels. Our men tennis players are on the whole not so strong and the men reserves offer no optimistic prospect. In the aspect of training reserves, the major method of developing the professional tennis players in the world is through tennis school. The major funding models are family funding, broker funding, business or club funding, the promotion of international tennis organization and the developing strategy. China has already developed diversified ways of developing tennis payers such as setting up amateur sports school, professional sports school, technical school of sports, club, specialized school of tennis, athletic sports school. At the same time, our nation has also developed diversified model of funding such as the common funding of family, businesses and state. Out tennis coaches are still of low academic credentials and academic titles. Furthermore, the number of coaches is far from enough and there is not enough communication between coaches. In addition, the social popularization of tennis sport needs to be further improved. Although the development of tennis market has made certain achievement, it need to be further cultivated under our present economic condition. And to promote the development of tennis industry is still an important factor affecting the sustainable development of Chinese athletic tennis sport.10.
