Theoretical research and the building of basic theory system are the basis of the construction and development of a discipline. It's meaningful to study on the essence, value and development of vocational education from the perspective of the discipline construction of vocational education, for this may have important theoretical significances for the construction and development of vocational education discipline, and practical significances for the political decision. This study uses historical method, comparative method and documentation method comprehensively and draws some theory from philosophy, education sciences, economics and other related disciplines. Conclusions of this study are listed as follows.Based on the analysis of related research and literature, we can find that the essence, value and development of vocational education are the theoretical issues that vocational education researchers in any period and from any area should ponder. Studying on these issues is helpful for the construction of the theory system of vocational education discipline.This paper does historical research on the practical and cognitive activities of vocational education, makes an overview on several existing forms of vocational education in different development stage of human society, and interprets the sociability of vocational education. This paper studies on the concept of vocational education comprehensively, presents the historicity of vocational education cognitive activities, puts forward the conception of vocational education with Chinese characteristics.This paper explores the essence of vocational education; the conclusion is that vocational education is a practical activity which can promote people's occupational quality in schools or at the workplace by information delivery. This paper analyses the value of vocational education, interprets basic concepts as the value of vocational education, vocational education values, vocational education value orientation and their relationships, and raised views about the rational choice of vocational education value orientation in our country. This paper also constructs and designs the concept of development and the development model of vocational education in our country theoretically based on a summary of the historical and international experiences.Finally, this paper presents some suggestions on the construction and development of vocational education discipline in terms of the improvement of theory system and personnel training system of vocational education discipline.
