Research On International Competitiveness Of Xinjiang's Cotton Industry In China

China is one of big countries yielding and consumering cotton in the world. Xinjiang is the biggest cotton planting province in China, and the total output accounts for more than 1/3 of the total output of China'cotton, being nearly 8% of the total output of global cotton. The cotton industry has the unreplaceable position in the development of rural economy and whole national economy in Xinjiang. Xinjiang's cotton industry has made great progress since its'economic reform and opening, with the continuous growth of cotton products quantity, it has now become the important industry section of agricultural economy in Xinjiang. After having joined the WTO in 2001, China's cotton market has been merging into the global cotton market and the cotton trade liberalization has further developed. As the biggest cotton production base in China, maybe Xinjiang's cotton industry would suffer strong shock from international cotton market, so studying on the comparative advantage and international competitiveness of Xinjiang's cotton industry becomes necessary and important.On the basis of collecting abundant data, the dissertation studies the international competitiveness & development of Xinjiang's cotton industry comprehensively, by applying theories, such as International Trade, Industry Economics, Comparative Economics, Cotton Commodity Economics, and research means, such as integration of quantitative and qualitative analysis, integration of positive and normative studies, abstract analysis, comparative analysis and so on.The dissertation consists of nine chapters, including the preface. The main contents are as follows:In the preface, the aims and significance of the research are introduced. After reviewing the development of internal and external correlative researches, the research clue, methods, structure and the main creative ideas are also listed .The first chapter is the theoretical foundation of the dissertation. After giving a brief introduction of competitiveness, international competitiveness and industry international competitiveness theories, the "Diamonds Framework" created by Porter, M. E. is expatiated emphatically.The second chapter analyzes the present productive situation, distribution and characteristics of the global cotton are analysed; and the production, consumption & export trade situation of China'cotton are also included and analysed. This is the basic background for the dissertation research.
