A Study On The Strategy And "Resource Trap" Of The Regional Economic Development In China

There exists the same political and economic system, but the economic development is different among the eastern, central and western regions, why? One of the possible reasons is that the western regions and eastern regions have different natural resource endowments. Though the endowment of natural resources in the western region is superior to the eastern region's and the western region should develop better in theory, the economic development of the western region lags far behind the eastern region, what causes? For this problem, many scholars at home and abroad have tried to answer and the "resource trap" theory may be one of those interpret theories. The so-called "resource trap" refers to one mode of economic and social development in a region over relying on the comparative advantages of natural resources, which mode will lead to long-term resource endowment-rich region may not be the fastest-growing economy in the region, but will as a backward region. From Auty (1993) put forward the "resource trap" hypothesis, there are many theory and empirical studies about "resource trap", which not only describes the "resource trap" has aroused a lot of the attention of scholars both at home and abroad, but also illustrate this phenomenon in widespread around the world and is a worldwide problem. However, the "resource trap" does not end; there are many issues which need further explanation and expansion, which are the starting point and the purpose for writing this paper.In order to study the issue of the "resource trap", this paper uses many theories and method such as economics, industrial economics, regional economics, development economics, and resource economics and so on. The full text is divided into eight chapters; the first chapter is the introduction to the topic of this article, and background and significance of the research at home and abroad, the definition of related concepts, as well as the structure of this article. Chapter 2 reviews the theoretical research of this article, including the theory of economic growth, economic development theory, regional economic theory, resources economic theory, "resource trap" theory. Chapter 3 analyzes the "resource trap" phenomena from the angle of economics, including the relationship between the natural resources and the economic growth, importance to the economic growth, as well as the "resource trap" and other causes. In the chapter 4, the resource trap's the connotation and denotation, resource trap's binding conditions are analyzed detailed. In the chapter 5, one case study is given, through the analysis of Nigeria and Shanxi Province; various features of the "resource trap" are found out. Chapter 6 deals with "resource trap" theory of experience and learned from, including success stories, the macro-economic theory and policies, institutions and mechanisms, theory and policy of industry and enterprise reform and development, and explore crack the "resource trap" theory and policy measures. In the chapter 7, one example - Guizhou are given, Guizhou-depth study of the economic development and the "resource trap" problems, then proposed some policy recommendations, that is, "the advantages of natural resources - resources development - comparative advantage - the industrial structure - economic development, "development mode. The last chapter is about summery and innovations of this paper.The main innovations in this paper are as follows: the relationship between the natural resources and economic growth was extended from the national level to regional level, so that revealed the underlying causes of differences among the regions which has different resource endowments; Analyzing the formation mechanism of "resource trap" from the perspective of economics, and analyzing the impact factors differ from the comparative advantages to competitive advantages in the resource-rich regions under the real conditions, which provides a new research perspectives about discussing the coordinated development of regional economy; Combining China's actual, using the inter-provincial data to analyzing empirically, which not only convincing theory itself, but also be useful for conducive to the practical activities.However, it is an extremely complex issue that a country or region's economic development, so there still exists a number of shortcomings about the "resource trap" in this paper. The applicability of the results of the theory needs to be tested; As a result of some condition restraint, the data for testing are not long enough, which makes the test results are not ideal enough. Therefore, we should study in these areas on the future.
