The abandoned coal mine lands occupy a large proportion in Chinese mining waste land, and cause serious environmental impacts and land destruction. There are urgent demand to control and restoration. This paper aimed at studying abandoned coal mine land landscape regeneration pattern, explored the feasibility and the approach of the abandoned coal mine land landscape regeneration by analyzing the potential landscape function and use conditions of different coal mine wasteland types. The thesis summarized the planning and design principles and methods which could be regular and apply broadly, and searched the combination way between the abandoned coal mine land restoration and urban green space construction.Abandoned coal mine land landscape regeneration is large-scale reclamation and design issue based on science, art, and economy, environment, economic, involving on many aspects and problems. It will not be able to realize the target by only relying on single discipline of landscape architecture and design phase alone. It needs to explore interdisciplinary and systematic integration of research methods. The research utilized the ecological restoration projects of many abandoned coal mine lands and some non-coal mining wastelands both at home and abroad as the initial and secondary research materials, took landscape architecture as the basis of fundamental theory and constructed the theoretical framework with disturbance theory, location theory etc. The thesis explored the implementation ways of abandoned coal mine land landscape regeneration mode by inductive analysis, vertical and horizontal comparison, intersectional synthesis, case verifying and other methods. The results indicate:1. As a kind of ecological restoration mode and land-use direction, abandoned coal mine land landscape regeneration is not only feasible, but also worth advocating by taking landscape architecture as the leading, as well as relying on multidisciplinary involvement, Multi departments cooperation and ecological restoration technology supporting under the framework of national and regional regulations and planning systems.2. Abandoned coal mine land landscape regeneration includes two meanings: one is to be reclaimed as city park, that means the large number of coal mine wastelands located in the urban edge or central city can be reclaimed leisure and recreational green space being characteristic of excavation landscape, and also can alleviate the development capacity pressure of urban green ecological space. Second meaning is to be reclaimed as other land types by landscape architecture theory and method; makes the lands have landscape, ecological, economic and other functions, and give play to landscape architecture’s role.3. It should put the specific land on the urban layout and space structure in the overall consideration when discussing abandoned coal mine land revitalization and landscape regeneration. The planning and design requirements of different scales should be made both from the city level and the abandoned coal mine land level respectively.4. The implementation of abandoned coal mine land landscape regeneration is a comprehensive issue and involves many knowledge and domain. It needs to be interdisciplinary and integration research so as to address the many challenges and complex problems.5. The implementation of abandoned coal mine land landscape regeneration cannot lack of the support of ecological restoration technologies, which is relied on to present both visual form and landscape function, otherwise, the landscape regeneration will not succeed.
