Liaozhai Folk Play Collection (short for Folk Play) is a novel written around the first start of Qing Dynasty by the famous literature writer Pu Songling. Folk Play is the important and valuable lingustic materials for us to study the later period of modern chinese, especially the Zichuan dialect of Ming and Qing Dynasty. Because of its spoken Chinese feature, it retains many dialectal words as well as dialectal sentence patterns that were widely used during Ming and Qing Dynasty. This study mainly focuses on the sentence patterns system in Folk Play. From this, this study is valuable to the study of the history of chinese grammars as well as that of chinese dialect grammars. This study focused on five sentence patterns appeared in Folk Play, including predicate-complement patterns, comparative patterns, disposed pattern"(ba)把", passive pattern "(bei)被" and positive-and-negative question patterns, all of which are the hotspots of chinese sentence patterns research. On the basis predecessors and the principles of form and meaning combination, this study gives a synchronic plane, and a quantitative and qualitative description of these sentence patterns in Folk Play. This study comprehensively describes the structures, the semantics and the pragmatics of these patterns. Meanwhile, by linking the diachronic development of chinese sentence patterns, this study aims to reveal the changing features and the changing tracks of these sentence patterns by running through the consciousness that the study of chinese should get through the aged-old to today between materials and methods. The purpose of this study is to investigate the historical levels of the main sentence patterns that were used in Folk Play in the whole chinese sentence patterns diachronic levels in the development of history. At the same time, through the cognitive analysis, to reveal the motivations and causes of different sentence structures and the function of expressions, thus to further strength the breadth and depth of the research. It also helps us to understand the grows and declines of the Zichuan dialect sentence patterns more and deeper and further clarify the evolution and development of these five sentence patterns from the modern chinese to present chinese.
