My thesis focuses on the private cinemas after the liberation of Shanghai. Inorder to outline the process of function changes of Shanghai’s private cinemas, itwill discuss the position changes of the labor, capitalist and public officials in thesocialist transformation.In this paper, the transformation process of Shanghai’s private cinemas will bedivided into three parts by two important social events.The first part is the first chapter. It discussed the progress from the liberation ofShanghai to refusing to release the American film of the cinemas association ofShanghai, which means achieving the primary form of state capitalism. At the sametime, in order to showing the operating status of the cinemas before the establishmentof the Shanghai administration of cultural affairs and the film career management, itwill discusses the controversy between cinema association and public officials.The second part is the second, third and fourth chapters, it mainly discussed thesocialist transformation of Shanghai’s private cinemas before the general line of threemajor transformation be proposed. Among them, the second chapter focuses on theanalysis of operating conditions of the private cinemas, respectively from the profitand loss situation of the private cinemas, labor disputes and film fare pricing,showing the position changes of the labor, capitalist and public officials, and revealingthe reasons for the functional changes of the private cinema from an economicperspective. The third and fourth chapters is based on the second chapter, it mainlydiscussed how to harness the power of association and union of cinemas by thegovernment through the socialist transformation process, which is not only furtherestablishes "education center" function of the cinemas, but also to achieve thesocialist transformation of the capitalists,association, workers, as well as union in thecinemas.The third part is the fifth chapter, it mainly discussed the socialist transformation of the private cinemas before the general line of three major transformation beproposed. The proposing of the general line accelerated the public-privatepartnerships of the Shanghai’s private cinemas. At the same time, against thedemocratic reform of the cinemas not only eliminate the ranks of the working class,but also to achieve a change in the internal structure of the private cinemas.From1949to1956, Shanghai’s private cinemas completed the socialisttransformation, and achieved public-private partnership. In the meantime, thegovernment takes full advantage of a means of political and economic, which not onlyto make changes of Shanghai’s private cinemas on the nature of ownership, but alsomaking it as an important part of the national advocacy organization.
