There is a profound historical relationship between the Chinese Zhuang ethnic group and the Thai people. They are both descendants of the ancient Yue groups. There are many similarities in the Zhuang’s and the Thai’s languages and cultures, social structures, family structures, as well as traditional customs. This thesisis mainly a comparative study of the Zhuang’s "Buluotuo scriptures" and the Dai-Thai’s "Busuanlan classic text." A comparative study of the marriage and family systems, the statuses of women, gives us some very good insights.A comparison of the Zhuang "Buluotuoscriptures" with Dai Thai’s Busuanlanclassic text" is a referenceback to recorded ancient literatures. The comparisonweeds out the later influence of other cultures. The original ethnic relationship of the Zhuang and the Dai-Thai becomes more apparent. Thisfurther confirms us that the two ethnic groups have a common history. The "Buluotuoscriptures"is affected by the Han culture. The influence of Confucianism and Taoism is evident. The "Busuanlanclassic text" is affected by Theravada Buddhism. It can be seen that there is a common cultural history of the Zhuang and the Dai-Thai until the sixth century. From the sixth century to the sixteenth century the cultural histories of the two people gradually differentiate. But one important aspect of their cultures is the same. That is their marriage systems.Even today the Chinese’s Zhuang and the Thailand’s Thai possess a significant feature of the Ougui marriage. Thewomen have the freedom to choose their husbands before marriage, freedom to love any persons. The groom moves into the woman’s house after the marriage. And the wealth of the married couple will be inherited by the couple’s daughters. This form of marriage is defined by many scholars as a "matriarchal" system,"Matriarchy" or "Matriliny remnants." In this thesis, through an examination of ancient literature records and field survey data analysis,we found out that whether the systemis "uxorilocal" or "patrilocal" is not a problem.A person may not know his father and only know his mother. But there is no problem of the so-called "mother right" or "feminist. The husband and the wife cannot do without one another. They are equal. This marriage system establishesa family, neither a "patriarchal family" nor a "matriarchal family". Men and women are equal and the family is a harmonious family. Not a patriarchal family, nora feminist family. We still do not have a definition of this system of marriage and family in the classical text of Marxism. This is the Zhuang-Dai Thai marriage and family system. If we have to give it a name we can think of something about the Interdependence of husband and wife. Both have equal responsibilitiesto build their harmonious,"familyhome."The original meaning of the expression "family home "in Chinese is:our own house or dwelling place. We would like to use this "family homes" concept to describe the Zhuang-Dai Thai’s marriage system. Thus we will be able to avoid the "matriarchy","patriarchy" concepts. The "Family Home Marriage" is the Zhuang-Dai Thai ethnic institution of marriage. Although Zhuang and Dai Thai ethnic people started to differentiate in the sixth century, their institutions of marriage have been inherited and remained similar. This phenomenon makes us understand more clearly that the Zhuang-Dai Thai ethnic people have a common history and long-term historical ties.In the societiesof Chinese Zhuang and Thailand’s Thai, people praise women and respect women. The people respect the women not because of the morality of the women. They praise the women’s independent personalities, spiritual aura, their cultures and their talents, their capabilities for household management and efficiency in their work.
