The topic of this thesis is the early Nanyang Chinese poetry (before 1911) heritage and development. The content of the first chapter, "Cultural Background of the Chinese Literature South Migration", is divided into three levels. First of all, it discusses the historical background and social structure of the early Nanyang Chinese poetic circle, then it shows that the migration of Chinese scholar to the south has been a key factor for the formation of the Nanyang poetry circle. Finally it describe the inheritance relationship between Chinese poetic circle and early Nanyang Chinese poetic circle and the early development of other South Asian ethnic groups literature. The second Chapter, "The Writing of Nanyang by Chinese Modern Poet," through Yang Qi, Kang Youwei, Chen Baochen Nanyang poetry case study, it explains the pioneering contributions of Chinese modern poets brought to the poetical theme of Nanyang. The third chapter, "Qiu Shuyuan and The Foundation of Early Nanyang Chinese Poetry", discusses how Qiu Shuyuan, early Nanyang Chinese poetic circle leader, used a broad friendship networks to develop Nanyang poetic circle. Besides, it discusses the poetic image of Nanyang in Qiu Shuyuan early poems. The fourth chapter, "Lize Society and Nanyang Poetry Apogee", discusses the purpose of the foundation of Lize society, its operation process, collection of poetry, outstanding members and creation, and its contribution development of Nanyang Chinese apogee. Finally, the fifth chapter, "The Elegant Poetic Style of Early Nanyang Chinese Newspaper, with ’Le Bao,’Xing Bao’,’Tiannan Xinbao’as example" discusses the poetry, writers and poetic activities published in the early Nanyang Chinese newspapers and try to explore the emotional content towards China contained in their poetry.
