Since the reform and opening up, migrant workers in China have grown into large-scale mobile population. Migrant workers, with their identity influenced by social environment and social memory, have been not a homogeneous group for a long time and have formed different groups of people through constantly constructing, deconstructing and reconstructing their group identity. From the perspective of generational distinction, migrant workers can be divided into old generation of migrant workers and new generation of migrant workers. New generation of migrant workers have become the main body of migrant workers and China’s industrial workers and they are the main promoters of China’s future urbanization. The flow pattern they selected will be critical to the development of Chinese industry, service and modern agriculture. It will be important for the future of China’s urban and rural development and China’s economic and social development. Therefore, the analysis of flow behavior of the new generation of migrant workers has important significance.Groups of different generations not only have their own special natural attributes, but also have different ways of thinking and behavior. In scientific research,, the researcher should take different perspective, analytical framework to different research objects. This dissertation, on the basis of reviewing the related research literature on the floating behavior of new generation migrant workers, builds the theoretical framework for analyzing floating behavior of new generation migrant workers, which draws support from the integration of the inter-generation theory, multidimensional perspective of human behavior in the social environment theory, Structuration Theory and the theory of population floating. Using the data of "floating survey of migrant workers of Hunan Province", this dissertation extracts the floating behavior characteristics of new generation migrant workers, analyzes the social and psychological influence factors, and analyzes the positive effects and negative effects of all kinds of floating types. In terms of the analysis outcomes of floating behavior characteristics, influence factors and effects, the dissertation puts forward the countermeasures and suggestions in order to achieve the floating will of new generation migrant workers, which is involved the government, enterprises and new generation migrant workers. So the dissertation includes the following contents.Firstly, how to analyze the floating behavior of new generation migrant workers? The dissertation erects the theoretical framework for analyzing the characteristics, influence factors and effects according to the integration of the inter-generation theory, multidimensional perspective of human behavior in the social environment theory, Structuration Theory and the theory of population floating. According to the integration of the inter-generation theory and the theory of population floating, the difference of floating behavior in the subjective aspect and objective aspect shows characteristics. The influence factors are divided into two parts, which are social influence factors and psychological influence factors according to the integration of multidimensional perspective of human behavior in the social environment theory and the theory of population floating. The social influence factors include micro factors, mezzo factors and macro factors. The psychological influence factors include motivation, attitude, fairness, relative deprivation, references, herd mentality and risk preference. Under the guidance of the integration of the Structuration Theory and the theory of population floating, the positive effects and negative effects of all kinds of floating types are analyzed.Secondly, what are characteristics of the floating behavior of new generation migrant workers from the perspective of intergenerational comparison? First of all, the dissertation puts forward one hypothese about characteristics of the floating behavior of new generation migrant workers according to the law of intergenerational behavior change that there are differences between acts of intergenerational floating behavior and turn to the heterogeneous type. Then, using the data of "floating survey of migrant workers in Hunan Province", on the basis of introducing the status quo of Hunan Province and its migrant workers’floating, illustrating of data collection and estimating the quality of the sample, the dissertation focuses on the performance about the subjective and objective aspects of floating behavior from the perspective of intergenerational comparison. At last, the hypothese is tested and verified according to the outcomes. The subjective and objective aspects of floating behavior have differences. The motive which can decide the nature of floating behavior and will which can classify the type of floating behavior turn, to heterogeneous nature and type.Thirdly, what factors affect the floating behavior of new generation migrant workers? The analysis of influence factors shows that the floating behavior of new generation of migrant workers is the combination of social and psychological elements. From factors of affecting the global floating behavior, the factors rank in the order of impact as personal factors, psychological factors, institutional factors and community factors. Although the psychological factors are less important than personal elements, it is more important than the institutional and community elements. Among all the mental factors, the most significant are non-economic motive, non-institutional attitude, herd mentality and relative deprivation; age, marital status, education, family income, the length of time, wage of working and working time are the most important personal factors; the community has no significant effect on the global floationg behavior; in the institutional factors, whether sign the contract or not determines the choice of floating type from two aspects. From the type of floating, with those floating forever between the city and countryside as the reference group, the type of return hometown without intention to farming is determined by the following factors:age, education, the length of time and wage of working, non-economic motives and non-institutional attitude. Working time, family scale and whether sign labor contract have significant effect on the type of return hometown with intention to farming. The type of urban settlement is influenced by the marital status, education, family income, working time and working income, non-economic motive and non-institutional attitude. The type of return hometown without intention to farming and the type of urban settlement are affected by more factors.Fourthly, what are effects of the floating behavior of new generation migrant workers? Different floating types have different effects to the city and the country, enterprises and new generation of migrant workers. The effects can be divided into two types, which are positive effect and negative effect. Every type of floating behavior has the positive effect and negative effect. On the whole, the effects of the type of return hometown without intention to farming and the type of urban settlement are more significant than of the other types because of their scale and character.Fifthly, how to realize the floating desire of new generation migrant workers? On the basis of analysis outcomes of characteristics, influence factors and effects of floating behavior, this dissertation gives some proper suggestions from the point of views of government, enterprises and individuality under the principle of considering main pattern and all others and focusing on the non-farming pattern, of emphasizing rural and city, of achieving double win for new generation of migrant workers and society, of keeping an eyes on the economic need and non-economic need, of making and implementation of policy and regulation.This dissertation takes the theoretical framework as a guide to empirical analysis, adopts the ways of the intergenerational comparison and internal generational comparison, and obtains meaningful findings:(a), the intergenerational floating behavior has difference, which shows that the two generation migrant workers turn to the heterogeneous group.(b), the psychological factors should be taken into consideration during the analysis of floating behavior of new generation migrant workers, (c), the floating behavior of new generation of migrant workers has ecological rationality.(d), the tendency of countermeasures and suggestions is to prompt the free floating of new generation of migrant workers. (e), in order to realize the floating desire of new generation of migrant workers, government, enterprises and new generation of migrant workers must be involved simultaneously.
