During the60years after World War II, British Labour Party, FrenchSocialist Party, German Social Democratic Party and Swedish Social DemocraticParty, as typical Western Europe Social Democratic Party repeatedly took to thepolitical arena and managed the state affairs. By the excellent performance of ruling,the Western Social Democratic Party laid a distinctive social-democratic imprint tothe whole western community and also suffered the pain of being abandoned byvoters for ages. As traditional reformist political parties, they focused on thetheoretical adjustment, the policy innovation and the organizational transformationadvancing with the times throughout the whole ruling process of the West EuropeanSocialist Party. It is through constant adjustment and innovation, the West EuropeanSocial Democratic Party could overcome the dilemma repeatedly and maintain anexuberant vitality in the political arena.The subject of this dissertation is to seek out the fundamental reason for SocialDemocratic Parties’ success in coming into power and maintaining in government andits references and enlightenments to Communist Party of China’s management byfocusing on the political practice of postwar Social Democratic Parties in WesternEurope via analyzing the adjustments and innovations in theory, policy andorganization by the Social Democratic Parties in these four countries and illustratingthe governing history, main characters and challenges of Social Democratic Partiesthrough the angle of how they manage to break through the obstacles by adjustmentsand reforms.This doctoral dissertation consists of Introduction, Main Parts (four chapters)and Conclusion.The Introduction explains the significance of the research, literature review,clarified the paper’s research mentality, research methods and research innovation.The first chapter introduces the economic and social development pattern inearly postwar period and the role of the Western Europe Social Democratic Parties.The author analyzed the Western European Social Democratic Parties how to grasp the historic opportunity, achieved the transformation of the party and won the rulingposition. The author discovered that the Social Democratic Parties paved their way tobeing in office successfully with positive adaptation and active integration andpromoted the formation of two-wing landscape in Western European.The second chapter introduces the ruling Practices from the British LabourParty, French Socialist Party, German Social Democratic Party and Swedish SocialDemocratic Party from the perspective of history respectively. The paper objectivelyanalyzed each party how to put forward policy ideas and policies in favor of thereality. These parties both achieved brilliant achievements, and faced with a series ofdilemmas.Through the whole consideration of ruling practice, the third chaptersummarizes the three main contents of ruling process of the Western Europe SocialDemocratic Party systematically, which are: the theoretical innovation, the policyadjustments and the organization building. The paper shows the whole scales of rulingparties-Social Democratic Parties of four countries and reveals their main line androot of various limitations and contradictions throughout the whole rulingprocess-comprehensive reform.The fourth chapter analyzes the practical significance, the main problems andthe development prospects in-depth, comparing with the reality of ChineseCommunist Party. From the contrast, we could realize the limitations and shortagesof ruling process of Chinese Communist Party profoundly. The paper proposes tolearn useful experiences of the Western European Social Democratic Partiesscientifically. By means of adjustment, reforming and innovation advance with thetimes, we could promote the development of socialism with Chinese characteristics.
