Along with economic globalization, NGO internationalization presents fourmodes, including DEVELOPMENT meaning NGOs are gradually developing into aregional and international organization based on the national social environment;PARTNERSHIP meaning NGOs are always establishing partnerships withinternational organizations; TALENTS INDIGENIZATION meaning local talents areinvolved into NGO overseas programmes are increasing; REGIONALIZATION ANDINTERNATIONALIZATION meaning NGO’s research are going towards thedirection of regionalization and internationalization. Furthermore, NGOinternationalization has five characteristics: they are affected by the values ofsupporting organizations, network effects are increased, organizations’ independenceis enhanced, autonomous alliances increase and aid funding expands. Chinese NGOsare also affected by internationalization as they begin to participate in internationalhumanitarian assistance and express their own voices, and begin to cooperate with thegovernment and enterprises to jointly participate in international affairs.They are influenced not only by the external environment, including legal, policy,competition with foreign organizations, international relations, local partners andother factors, but also by NGOs’ internal environment, including management,leadership, talent professionalization, funding and practical experiences. Four paths ofNGO internationalization strategies are proposed in this thesis, includingstrengthening exchanges and cooperation with foreign NGOs, participating in themultilateral cooperation held by United Nations, participating in internationalconferences and project cooperation of international official development assistance.In addition, five cooperation modes are put forward, including cooperation with localpartners, NGOs taking leading roles with government support, joint cooperation withenterprises, making use of foreign resources, and cooperation with the media.The essay shows its innovation from the following three perspectives:1. It breaks through the traditional pattern of research on internationalizationdevelopment of social organizations by systematically analyzing cases of socialorganizations in US, Britain, Japan, Brazil and etc. in terms of development stage of internationalization, choice on strategy and route, mode of cooperation. It points outthree types of development benchmarking that can benefit Chinese NGOs based oncommon ground for their internationalization development.2. It finds out typical experience of success and failure on internationalizationdevelopment of Chinese NGOs through Case Study Research on the path ofinternationalization development practice of Chinese and foreign NGOs. The essayillustrates the challenges, difficulties and key policy support faced by Chinese socialorganizations in the process of international development.3. It points out the opportunities in external environment and threats indevelopment of Chinese NGOs dealing with internationalization based onmathematical analysis such as questionnaire survey, SWOT analysis, Delphi methodand etc. It makes in-depth analysis on the strengths and weaknesses of Chinese socialorganizations during the process of internationalization, presents prior working fieldsof internationalization for Chinese NGOs,10pieces of recommendation for theauthority and5advices for NGOs combined with practice and strategic choice ofinternationalization development.
